  1. Crikey, must get a bit expensive if you need to renew your car every time you go to the library!
  2. My daughter was once told to either be quiet or leave the garrison while watching a film. I thought it entirely reasonable - as a cinema-goer myself, it's damned annoying when others spoil the film. Yes she'd paid the ticket price - but so had everyone else there and they weren't spoiling the film for everyone else. It seems to me that she was treated as a noisy individual, as was your son. As has been mentioned, maybe take him when he's a little older and able to sit through a film. As an aside, when I lived south I had a good friend with tourettes. He always waited for the films to come out on video (no DVDs then!) because he was considerate to the other people in the cinema. The funny thing was when he watched a film he very rarely said anything, but he didn't want to risk it.
  3. Maybe they need to arrest China next... http://www.newser.com/story/124952/largest-ever-hacking-attack-uncovered.html?utm_source=part&utm_medium=inbox&utm_campaign=newser
  4. I wonder if it is this one? http://www.shetland.cats.org.uk/shetland/lost-and-found?id=2630
  5. Photo already available on the shetland news website http://www.shetnews.co.uk/news/1497-hill-gets-his-legal-hearing.html
  6. Ummm... did you happen to miss the smiley?
  7. According to various websites he is supposed to be a 23 yr old from Sweden, and the name you posted matches. I guess time will tell!
  8. There seems to be some doubt that the person arrested is Topiary - he is supposed to be a 23 yr old from Sweden. Very interesting, I'll be keeping my eye going on this story. The Westboro baptist church are just hate-mongerers. Bigots in the extreme, they deserve everything they get.
  9. If the box office says they are available, I would go with that. After all, they are the ones that are selling them and have the most up to date info.
  10. Page 1 of the booklet: I'm really not sure how much more explanation is required.
  11. I don't know. Was there anyone else in the room with you?
  12. Not strictly true. Go back and read what I wrote and don't read into it what isn't there. Okay, duly re-read. I admit, I was wrong. You don't state that you wish shetlanders not to type in dialect. But it is certainly implied. I think that blaming others for your shortcomings (your unwillingness to try to read anothers post and then blame it on them for choosing to use the local dialect) is quite ignorant as well, actually.
  13. Not true. Colin is quite clear on the point that he doesn't wish people to write in dialect I do appreciate that, I don't think any shetland-speakers have disputed that point, but I could be wrong.
  14. Maybe we should all start speaking with an english accent too, just in case there happens to be tourists or non-shetland born around.
  15. It's a new way of getting cheap meat for third world countries. Or maybe more likely - recycling of catalytic converters. At a guess.
  16. I didna keyn dat shaetlan hed a proper wye tae spell hit. I ayways towt dat hit wis maestly spoken, an dat fok spelt it foo dey heard it. (But there is a new thread for the dialect aspect of the conversation, maybe your post would be better there)
  17. All it took was a 30 second phone call, feel free to phone them yourself to check.
  18. Oh it is that easy is it?. Except like lots of other Lerwick residents I do not have any sort of vehicle and if I hire a man with a van to transport my bruck to the site I understand it then is regarded as trade waste and the man will have to pay to dump it. A cost that will be passed onto me. Thats not true. I have just phoned them to clarify this point, as it is one that you have made twice with nothing to back it up. They said if you hired someone to take it away it would still be classified as household waste and be disposed of free of charge.
  19. Ummm.... missing the point much? Posting in Welsh on a Shetland forum would be a patently ridiculous thing to do. But would you have a similar issue if people posted in Welsh on a forum specifically for Wales? Or would you be more likely to side with the Welsh-speakers that were being told that they should post in English to make themselves understood?
  20. I don't drink coffe, and I've never been in a Starbucks. If I was to choose a coffee shop for here, I would choose Costa Coffee, purely because their fruit coolers are quite lovely. As for MacDonalds. My children have been there twice. The first time because they had been lured into believing the hype and so when we were south we took them there, at their request. The second time they were it was because there was nowhere else available for us to go to in the time we had available, and they were seriously unhappy with the prospect. I don't think Shetland has much to gain by having chain food places. In fact I'm not convinced anywhere gains from them, really. One of the best bits when you go to new places is trying out the local cuisine, and Maccy D's just doesn't cut it.
  21. Oooh, I fancy some! I might be in Ollaberry some time soon-ish too!
  22. It may well be, but it looks like it was relicensed in June last year for five years - but that might start from later this year?: http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/radio-broadcast-licensing/monthly-updates/update0610/
  23. Not as such, but I'm not convinced that any commercial radio station within the confines of Shetland would have enough advertising revenue to pay for the staff for what you are looking for. Maybe you should approach him with your ideas with a possibility of becoming a volunteer?
  24. Their licence comes up for renewal again in four years or so - no reason you can't put a bid in for your own style of radio station.
