  1. there is an excellent ..free,piece of software that converts all sorts of formats for the kindle. its called Calibre...we use it all the time for all our kindles.
  2. my mum used the crate system,it works well. she fostered puppies for "hearing dogs for the deaf" and that's what they do too. When she had her first (own) puppy, she had been a "cat" person up to that point, and was bought a dog as a gift,in desperation, trying to get the dog clean, she covered the kitchen floor with black pepper...so every time the dog sniffed to wee...it sneezed...she claimed it worked. She never used that method again though!!
  3. oh la la la la la la...as Madame Manite would say (my daughter`s teacher in France) yes attack the argument not the arguer. civil discourse is the answer, then hopefully we can all learn something...on either "side".
  4. well we ended up over here...but the freemen issue has reared its head again in the original thread!!
  5. Mistress...but no offence taken sir.
  6. Sherlock...i wish this forum had nominations for the quality of posts..I would nominate you.
  7. so...cold in here isn`t it? I ,also..forsooth...am waiting fro the many "freeman" success stories. I had a thoroughly enjoyable night, last night,on the freeman of the land forums...especially the success stories section....or lack of,more like it. One even quoted a "statute barred debt" as a success story.....that makes me a freewoman...as i have drafted the same type of letter for people with debt issues,it also seems strange to quote as successful, that which you are against eg statutes so successful cases....
  8. I have followed the "freemen" of the land around the internet....(I am not a follower though... i think its load of tosh) please do cite successful cases...i haven`t found one yet,its easy to find cases of those (generally American) who have lost their houses because of a belief in the Freemen idea.
  9. Generally hen hooses are made out of old bits of wood and baling twine... you might get someone handy to make one, sometimes they are advertised on Shetlink. Having one from south might be expensive to ship. Feed and feeders etc from Harbro on Staney hill. Breeds...well often warrens are advertised in paper now and then,or look on shetlink. Or ask around locally. I know some people go the incubator and fertile egg route, eggs again from south.
  10. Shetland shops are unlikely to be able to compete on price from the internet. Sometimes they can,but not often in my experience. Where they could compete is on service and knowledge of product. They don`t unfortunately... a shrug and a "don`t know" is not going to cut it. when I lived south I would often buy...and still do,from John Lewis, not because they were cheaper, but because of the service i got. If I was buying a large item,I would want to discuss it at length with someone,John Lewis staff are excellent....probably because their partnership with the company is a huge incentive to know the product and give good service. Shetland shops need to train staff better. They could emphasise their "immediacy"...you can have it NOW...and if it breaks we will fix it quickly because we are local.
  11. shouldn`t we all be worried that is was a "secret" meeting? Democracy needs to be seen to be done. i might not ( rarely) agree with what they do,but at least i can find out about it if i need to,then make my feelings known to my councillor (ha ha) Did they thing the plebs could not understand the issues? My beef would be with the number of times they employ (useless) consultants...not where they stayed. Although if they employ them every two minutes it`s no wonder it would be cheaper to buy them a house than put them up in hotels etc....maybe we can give them individual houses...might kick start our economy.
  12. well i have taken my cat to vet in carrier on the bus...nobody said a word.
  13. yes, sourcing bees will be a big problem,to avoid bringing in varoa. Unfortunately colonies are unlikely to reach huge sizes here,so not many "internal " bees going spare. I think its highly unlikely in Shetland that there will be much bee-keeping in town....so not a lot of bee poo! but nature is nature, you cannot direct wild animal/insects where to poo. Come sky high oil prices, with knock on costs on everything...honey will be very popular...and the tobacco i will be growing.
  14. barely have neighbours...they are a long way away. Without bees we would all starve!
  15. I haven`t read the whole thread, but as i stated once before,we have just received excellent service from JBT. Both pick up from the middle of England and a quick delivery here. I also find their prices reasonable. They have made purchasing large, heavy stuff from Ebay,as simple as buying locally.
  16. I have taken a cat on the old boats, and the new. The current boat`s kennels in my opinion are horrendous. They are down in the depths of the ship, noisy and smelly(engine/car smells). Also the being near dogs issue. If you can, leave the cat in the car with litter tray etc. Having said that...the cat survived...and didn`t seem the worse for it...but I felt terrible. Maybe the vet can give you something to calm the cat.
  17. we have done it both ways for people using a large hire van...obviously hire from the "end" you are finishing at.
  18. finally, after the child rearing years...it maybe the "do what I`ve always wanted to..." years. So having done several courses over the years,I am wanting to set up next spring... I know there are bee keepers here in Shetland...are any of you on Shetlink? I would love to chat to someone...maybe start an informal get together?
  19. see money saving expert.com forum for issues with DFS sofas...go to praise, vent etc or consumer issue section.
  20. yes,the new design has put me right off...even unbookmarked it!!
  21. Thanks for the "blooming tea" link,I looked it up,in fact my daughter bought some in China town in October...very elegant....but i need a huge caffeine/tannin whack to keep me going..
  22. I have bought the essential oil and an oil mister on Amazon...will report back on Earl Grey tea making...
  23. No definately not herb Bergamot "Earl Grey tea is a tea blend with a distinctive flavour and aroma derived from the addition of oil extracted from the rind of the bergamot orange, a fragrant citrus fruit." "Bergamot grows on small trees which blossom during the winter. The distinctive aroma of the bergamot is most commonly known for its use in Earl Grey tea." If any one is off to Italy...please et me know!!
  24. Oh,my research has lead me to believe that it is not the herb Bergamot but Citrus bergamia that is used in Earl Grey tea. Growing the herb Bergamot would be easier certainly...having grown it in the past.I well try to get the two oils and compare.
  25. ummm....they never checked paperwork...or the coffin...I`m not convinced,I`m afraid. I would expect them to be discrete over the transportation of a body, but that was non existent. My husband (not one to ask for help easily) wandered for 20 odd minutes,up to reception etc. I was astonished by the whole business,to tell the truth, but never got around to complaining about it. I understand they are unused to coffins not being put on/met by a funeral director....but as an infiltration route, its certainly an easy one. As soon as you mention, coffin, body etc people are uncomfortable, embarrassed, and want to get rid of you as soon as possible.Nobody asked questions. And thus history is made....
