    Hitching

I used to hitch all the time - Shetland, the mainland and in Europe. I swore I'd never drive past a hitchhiker. Ashamed to admit, as a single female, I'm a bit nervous of picking people up even though I do a lot of long drives when working.. Maybe I should just get some backbone! Had a good excuse when the kids were young - and most hitchhikers would have run a mile rather than get in my car at that time - but that excuse doesn't hold now
  2. Coatbridge is the best town in Britain. erm - joke? Please say it is....
  3. Thanks - I'll send off emails to these ones this morning. I thought the message from Anne McGuire was a standard brush off to be honest, but emailed her back thanking her for responding. Got this in reply which is more heartening... Will get back to you if there is anything further I can add. Anne Anne many thanks for the response. Any help you can lend to this campaign will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again Carole My faith in politicians is being restored - helped greatly by the impressive work AC is doing!
  4. Got a response from my MP Anne McGuire Labour (Stirling) tonight Thank you for your email on EDM 2373. EDMs are instruments for backbench MPs to raise matters of concern or interest. However, as a Government Minister, I am not able to sign them. I will however, raise your concerns directly with the Minister concerned. Thank you for contacting me on the matter of Sakchai Makao. Anne
  5. Brilliant - all of them! Best laugh I've had in ages!
  6. Like Hillswick and when we were at school (in the seventies) a few of us went camping to Uyeasound up past North Roe. Breathtakingly beautiful beaches up there
  7. What's happened to the e-petition? I can't see it on the page? Want to circulate it to some contacts in the hope of gathering more signatures
  8. When I moved to Shetland in the mid seventies I was called "Overspill". I had moved from East Kilbride which my classmates in Geography had learned was a town built to cope with overspill from Glasgow... Clever..(certainly beats what I was called at the EK school!)
  9. Newcastle is a great city - lived there a while and also went through a mid life crisis and spent a lot of weekends there Love Glasgow and oddly enough, like Edinburgh too. I find Liverpool hard to like, and some of the cities further south I don't find particularly warm
  10. Really enjoyed the book even although it's not the kind of book I usually read. Made me want to research a bit more into where the fact separated from fiction. Not seen the film yet - heard mixed reviews
  11. oooh - so happy Squeezed in just under the 45 bracket! Thanks, Shetlink...
  12. Good coverage in today's Sunday Herald. 3 articles altogether - news piece and comments from both Muriel Gray and Iain McWhirter...
