Did you also notice in the closing credits 'All places and locations are fictitious'? If you want to watch a documentary on Shetland look elsewhere. If on the other hand you want a fictitious crime drama then watch the series.

i usually greet cold callers with the line. "Please remove this number from your database" The caller always hangs up after I have said this and it seems to work as I tend not to get another call looking for the same information.

Personally I plan to use the cinema more often now. Hate the smell of Popcorn and hate the sound of other folk crunching their way through a film.

RickB reacted to a post in a topic: Do the Mods still come here?
-
I have been noticing a massive increase in naming and shaming folk on Shetlink. And also topics being discussed that would once have been locked within hours of posting. Maybe they have just grown old and more relaxed or maybe it is my old age coming into it. however thankfully shetlink has moved away from the old days of pointless arguments among folk though. So, do the mods still lurk in the background?

http://www.rustyshackle.com/ There is a possibility of this band coming to either Shetland or the north of Scotland this summer. I would like to know if anyone would be interested in them coming to shetland http://youtu.be/C5EyLRvw9cs http://youtu.be/QbXW0pO1GGc

The Grand Hotel is open and I think some of the Indian and Chinese restaurants in Lerwick are open on Christmas day. Not sure where else though.

Economic Case for an Independent Scotland - IFS Report
RickB replied to Who Knows's topic in National & International News
Wow. what happened? well reasoned, fact based arguments on shetlink! never thought I would see the day! Seriously though, No one can predict what level of taxation we will have in ten years wether or not scotland leaves the UK. Personaly I will vote yes next year and Im getting fed up of the scare stories that the Better Together folk keep giving us. This is one of the reasons that I no longer watch BBC News. I admit it will be a gamble to become independant (as I'm sure every similar country has faced on gaining independance) as we cant predict the future. I cant remember what the national debt is at the moment, but Scotlands share (I think) would be around 9% (based on Population). -

Thanks Who Knows, That is the most mature and well thought out post I have seen on Shetlink in a very long time. A common mistake people make is that, should Scotland vote yes it will happen overnight. As you rightly pointed out, either way the next Scottish election is in 2016.

any clairvoyants/mediums in shetland?
RickB replied to meerkat16's topic in Anything & Everything Else
I know its not quite what your looking for, but the Shetland spiritualist centre folk might know of someone who could help you. I am aware that clairvoyance and Spiritualism are two completely different fields but there may be folk among them that can help. http://www.shetlink.com/events-calendar/event_view.php?eid=7862&instance=2013-7-3 -
Sorry, can other Shetlanders have an opinion? Your thread title gives the impression that you have decided for us. have a look at the Yes Scotland website http://www.yesscotland.net/ If we regain our independance, we can then vote on our way forward. This of course involves an Election. A vote for independance isnt a vote for the SNP.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2313400023.png Slower than 94% of the UK. Just think, 6% of the population actualy have slower internet than us!

Personaly I agree with Corporate. You either allow advertising or you dont. Usualy if a shetlink member was to advertise they would be reminded to put adverts in the classifieds section. Or better still, put the advert in the events calender.

looking for info about my dad who passed away recentley
RickB replied to chrisj73's topic in Anything & Everything Else
Sorry for your loss. If he died on Orkney then the Kirkwall undertakers may be able to give you some information, or at least which undertakers in Aberdeen organised the funeral.http://www.johncorsefunerals.co.uk/ Or if you have an idea where in Orkney he died then you could try the registrars for that area.http://www.orkney.gov.uk/Service-Directory/R/Registrars_2.htm Hope this is of some help to you. -

The "Buffalo Theory" of Beer.. A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers, and that's why beer is so GOOD for you!
