  1. I can't tell you just how grateful we all are for your constant updates and pictures of this grim task. Keep up the good work SD, you'll make a good Sun reporter someday.
  2. What's "UDI"? I'd allways thought it was an Unidentified Drunken Injury.
  3. Anybody know the story behind the crane with the snapped jib that's sitting at the old shell pier? It looks like it's just been bent in the middle.
  4. It only applies to local authority ground. Private property and LPA land is exempt. I think the area outside the Peerie shop cafe is private and exempt and maybe where the tables used to be outside Flints. I'm pretty sure that only alcohol purchased from the licensed premises can be consumed there though.
  5. ^^ Yes but they only managed to arrest one drunk guy at the cross for singing! They missed the real crime.
  6. Buy from a local butcher. Problem solved.
  7. Absolutely it is. Remember when they used the told us that Shetland couldn't have a cinema because Health and safety had deemed the location to the fuel depot too dangerous? That was an excuse to put pressure on the depot to move. When it didn't work, they went ahead and built their own glass palace between the two! Just using that as an example. Not trying to get off topic.
  8. ^^ Are you one of those that'll argue their corner even after being shown proof of the shortfallings or can you be neutral? Next time I go I'll be taking video evidence of how poorly the staff can operate a bar. If you're interested in evidence and not just your own opinion, I'll send it to you.
  9. Had my first experience of Mareel this weekend. Can say I was less than impressed. Haven't seen the auditorium yet, just the bar and cinema. The cinema was fine but the cafe bar.... OMG! Hopefully there's another room they use as the bar area for concerts as this area is woefully inadequate. But even if there is, the staff either need some training or a real whipcracker to ensure that the training they should have received is followed stringently. After all, this is Shetlands 'premier' music venue and a negative report from the environmental office (which they would fully deserve on what was witnessed this weekend) could be devastating to a business that is under pressure to prove it's buoyancy.
  10. It is but i can't get to the shop before it's closed. Thanks Shetlandcars, I'll have alook along Tescos. Might even have walked past it and not noticed if it was still there.
  11. Hi. Does anyone know if there is a photo booth on Shetland? I know there use to be one in Tescos but i think it's gone.[/u]
  12. *flounces in. and then back out of the forum.
  13. Is Lonewolf "he who cannot be named"? I think I'm getting the hang of this now.
  14. I really hope the police tell you where to get off and stop wasting there time! I'm pretty sure they've got other things to do. Or you better hope the do.
  15. I know that I am new here but I have to say If Shetlink is filled with this type of whining, I'll be thinking of saying goodbye myself. Call the police or don't call the police, It's nobody's business but yours and the fuzz. Why would you even think about posting that on a community forum?
  16. ^^ Maybe it's special forces training? I suppose Shetland can resemble the Falkland islands (a bit).
  17. Ah, I wonder if the military tanker that is sitting at holmsgarth is part of this? They must be planning to be around for a while before they bring their own fueler if it is.
  18. ^^ Funny, That's where the last shop I tried to use mine suggested I put it
  19. Anybody else think this has gotten ridiculous?
  20. What? I know it's the season of good will an all that but don't be looking for praises for doing your chosen occupation. If you got out of bed to climb a pole in a blizzard to reconnect some ungrateful buggers power supply or put out a blaze. Or even cut a drunk driver out of their car then, yes, I'd class you as a hero. But not for waving a red torch while dressed like an Eskimo. Going back to my sherry now. Rant over
  21. http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2012/12/21/ferries-will-sail-on-sunday-says-serco I wonder if Tesco would have pushed up the price of perishables to cover the cost of hiring a plane if the ferry wasn't sailing? And are they planning to fly in produce that can still be bought locally like bread and milk? (a final kick in the teeth for Malcomsons)
  22. The BBC is not much more than a Tory propaganda tool. Keep listening and believing the rubbish this particular breed of lapdog feeds you and you'll end up with a Health Service similar to Englands.
  23. Plenty people up here that think nothing of wasting Police time. Oh and on the earlier point of A&E. Orkney doesn't have one and they seem to manage ok.
