  1. Just filled up da car at sutherlands - and the chap ahint da counter said it was going up again da morn! possibly as much as 5p so goodness knows - if your car is getting a bit empty - away and fill her up.
  2. We had Chicken Stripper Baskets from Oslas Takeaway last night and it was delicious. A great meal when you cannot be bothered to cook. 5 pieces of coated chicken fillet, side salad, dip of your choice and chips £6.95. Mmmm got me hungry again.......
  3. We were at Flames tonight, my 8 year old son had a burger and chips and we declined the cheese and salad that was included in the price - so it was £4.00 for burger and chips - the burger was huge and a massive portion of chips - there is no way my son could have eaten it. Maybe when they get themselves sorted they will maybe offer kids portions for smaller children. Or some sort of happy meal for kids! We also had a curry which was superb and the pizza was very good. I thought the price of juices etc were normal - ie expensive - but they have to make their money somewhere. Certainly just what Lerwick needed.
  4. Jez. I have seen it all now - what is this place coming to.
  5. Ally McCoist named today as Walter Smiths replacement.
  6. Yes I think that this would be a good idea, especially if it could all come together from the main SIC website. If the schools look like they are going to be shut - I used to listen to Radio Orkney in the mornings, however, now I always come to Shetlink. I also find that Shetlinkers are very helpful on giving you updates on the road conditions, it would be good if the main SIC website had up to date information on Schools, Roads and Ferries which could be updated regularly then linked through to Facebook, Twitter and Shetlink. I must add that I never think to access the SIC website for any current information that I am looking for except the Road Conditions Weather Related maps!
  7. Cost £468,000.00. For one public holiday! Well done S.I.C. we cannot afford it. Cannot though for the life me understand why in Orkney it is only costing them in the tens of thousands. Why such a difference in cost? How many more people do the S.I.C. employ than Orkney - or has someone got their sums wrong!
  8. Paul b i kind of agree with you - it would be good if there was somewhere you could suggest or put forward ideas for savings within the council - i have loads of discussions with friends about this and yeh some of our ideas are stupid but some are quite sensible - i once a long time ago wrote to the chief exe. re cost saving ideas for the council - which i believe were sensible! and i never even got a reply.. sometimes people who are working in these situations cannot see the wood for the trees and maybe lots of little changes could bring longer term savings than some of the more draconion measures being forced at the moment. An old saying that is true- time to look after the pennies! something i think da council has not had to do for a very long time.
  9. he will not be playing today as he is on "of the ball" on Radio Scotland at the moment.
  10. Good Luck Peter & Tom Shetlinkers will give you plenty info to sift through

  17. I would think that today with the forecasts - that even if you get where you need to get - will you be able to get back! - is that journey really necessary! Keep yourself safe and everyone else safe. easy for me to say being in da toon i know - but we all knew this was coming - dinna come tae da toon if you dinna hiv tae - you might no get back later in da day.
  18. After mid-week, perhaps a dramatic change to very wintry and windy conditions, as N’ly gales develop. By the weekend, there is the possibility of heavy snow and gales, resulting in travel disruption. Some improvement the following week, but this second cold spell has the potential to last until Christmas. here we go again!
  19. think you are right breeksy = gie da gritter boys a chance to clear the main lines. friend took 1 hour to get from brae to lerwick early this morning at about 6.00am a lot of the road at that time was single track, he said they were not good. so if you can wait a wee while before travelling - it might be wise.
  20. doh! never thought of that - consider it done
  21. brilliant idea - i did adblock no more adverts bliss
  22. looking at Sat24.com and it looks to me like we could be getting a big dump of snow shortly.
  23. you know one night in a (club) i fell out with a pensioner who was pissed, and was going to drive home - his attitude astounded me - he didn't care if he lost his license at his age! - my argument - what if you kill someone on the way! he drove home!! first time in my life i should have shopped someone - i never really spoke again to the "late" person - but an astounding attitude from an age group you would not have expected.
