  1. LIB DEM FAIL!!! Maybe we should just lib dem.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1363388/What-like-despised-man-town-political-correctness-forgot-come-SIXTH-election.html?ito=feeds-newsxml Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the libs and Shetland can be saved from the horror of Tavish's personal gain policy.
  2. From experience, in most cases, women rest their asses while the men do the work.
  3. Because A Women will always get the last word in every argument.. Of course It's just a pity that the woman's last word in any argument is NO!!!! Which only leave the man one option,,, turn over and go to sleep.
  4. The way that the wind farm project is being pushed forward by the council makes me think that Shetland has become a dictatorship. Perhaps in the same way that many middle easy countries have suffered for many decades. Egypt, Libya, Bahrain. etc.. are now rising up against the dictators. Perhaps it's time for Shetlanders to rise up against the oppression of the SIC. Shetland spades and muck forks at the ready, lets storm the bastions of the town hall. And, as usual the mods will delete this because I've offended their lords and masters,,, the SIC
  5. Sorry Mods. I forgot that the greatest breach of Shetlink's T&Cs is to criticise any aspect of your beloved masters. The SIC
  6. Now I know this is off topic, but how to hell does 3 workers need a manager? Surely a manger should be managing more than 3 workers. Realistically there should be a ratio of at least 20 workers to each manager for any cost effective workplace to operate. I'd love to hear the answer to this waste of council resources/public funds...
  7. (** mod edit - generalised moan removed **)
  8. How many of the experts on this forum, if they were given the position of master on these vessels, would depart in some of the weather that has been seen in the north sea lately? I suspect that very few of the keyboard captains would venture out of their computer chair, or their front door, never mind set sail in the north sea.... It would be great if the moaning element on Shetlink could put themselves, even for a few minutes, in the place of the people who have to make the decisions whether or not to set sail. I would imagine that this "moaning element" are the same silly bar stewards who would be spewing their muggies up before they left the harbour, and then claiming compensation from Northlink for their discomfort. Shetlink..... Complaining for the sake of it. Get a bloody life....
  9. Clive has hung on for many years against the onslaught of the online market. 90% of the time Clive has been extremely competitive on price, and 100% of the time he has been absolutely amazing with the broad spectrum of musical interests he has catered for. If the roumor is true that the shop is closing, I can only feel sad for what Shetland is losing. One of the last independent music retailers in the UK. If Clive is retiring from the business I'm sure there are many contributors to this forum who would join me in thanking him for the millions of hours of listening pleasure which we have collectively had from the items bought in his shop. Good on de Clive, do's been a star.

  11. Best definition of Up Helli A I've heard for yonks.
  12. It was a balls up in 99. Maybe it will be a 'total balls up' this time round. No wonder nobody wants to talk about it. It could be even more embarrassing than Transvestite Tuesday.
  13. There is only one obvious point from this topic. Shetlanders don't want to have any local shops. If I were a retailer in Shetland reading this thread I would simply give up and shut the door. I get great service from local retailers, with a special mention for the Shetland Times Book Shop and the Camera Centre, and a few others I can't think of just now. I never think they are ripping me off for charging the manufacturers recommended retail price, because I know the profit margins they are operating on. If you take a view of profit margins in the retail sector then you will find that the only retailer in Shetland who is actually ripping people off is Tesco..
  14. Malcolm, please don't misunderstand me. But, if you can but a product today on Amazon, at the same price as you can buy it in Lerwick, then calling local retailers rip-off merchants is being a bit cheeky. It's you're own fault if you didn't buy at the special price Amazon offered. So stop acting like a typical home grown Shetlander, which oddly enough I don't think you are. Accept the price offered, make a decision whether or not to buy. But if you miss the special offer just grind your teeth like the rest of us and admit that you missed a chance. Don't blame the retailers for doing what they do best,,,making a profit. And, Malcolm. Absolutely no insult intended. I hate retailers as much as most folk. But this Christmas the local retailers have proved themselves to be much more reliable than the online shops which failed to deliver because of a little bit of snow.
