  1. Yes i've heard lots of good service from them - when your buying. Not so good if you have equipment that you didnt buy from them but as they are the dealer you ask for help. The old shetland service if you didnt buy it from us, then sausage aff! This is silly on their part as getting help from a shop is part of the whole 'service to the comunity you serve'. Do they or any shop think you will return to actualy buy anything new after that reception? Bit like shooting theirselves in the foot. sorry to go off topic a wee bit
  2. thats if your face fits and you can get past the bouncers
  3. yes bit it was not their policy in the first place, but by doing nothing as you say they are as bad as the torries. i have no problem selling homes but councils should be allowed to bild new ones with the money from the sold ones. 2 wrongs dont make a right - both the torries and labour are both wrong on this one. on one is more wrong that the other, unless you want to get the ones that thought up the crazy scheem in the first place
  4. life is full of iffs! if the torries had allowed the councils who sold houses to their tennents were alowed to build more houses with the money then they wouldnt be a sortage of homes now. i'm not sure but i think they (the torries) pocketed the money into the london goverment.
  5. I love RS news i listen almost everynight, with a news programme you can only report whats happening, and if nothing is happening theres nothing to report. i like the new guy, i dont like when they get some untrained 'everything is lovely lovely' local guy to report on something, i switch it off when they come on. i usualy never listen to the night time programes as i think its all for the over 55s or its so hip for young folk its cringing. but i always know the news is correct unlike sibc when your never quite sure. their reporting on the council or the trusts are always unbiest in my eyes. they are never feert to have a good dig to some high councollour or trust director.
  6. what does active shetland do? should it not be the PE teachers or leasure center centre staff should be doing anyway? and why do they have to be a compleet department doing their work for them?
  7. looks like its some drama thing after all, the fact that heeps of cars nearly went off the road from seeing this random white wife in the middle of nowhere didnt come into their heads.
  8. you need to contact the duty social worker (they are at Hayfeild now) go and get an appointment and they will sort you out. When ever i have had to go there they have been briliant! Weekends in the hostel will be fine as the kids in the small islands dont go home every weekend, not sure what would happen in the holidays though. good luck
  9. It would have been interesting on why staff were off, as the sic is the bigest employer then the should also be the biggest employer with staff who have cancer, and other long term illness? I'd like to know how many were off with work related stress? or the 48 hour after being sick which is the rules, you must stay off if you work in certain jobs. Then i'd like to know how many were off one after a big event, a monday or even a friday. Thats the ones that needs to be sorted most! lumping all staff into one isnt giving a totaly true picture. I for one would be standing half dead at work, where others might be off with a sniffel or after a night on the booze. Shetland might be sicker than we thought
  10. As I recall the name Mareel was chosen as part of a competition to name the then 'Cinema and Music Venue' - it wasn't Shetland Arts' suggestion, although they probably chose it from a shortlist. You recall is nearly right, yes they had a competition to name the new venue, if i recal the arts wife was on radio shetland telling folk the name they had chosen. They said they had a competition but then desided not to use any of the sugested names and they had come up with their own (after hocking throught the book of dead words). so no-one actualy won the said competition, or they made on they wanted not to be named - ie they thought of it themselves! The last word was always going to be made by the trustees so they always were going to have the last desision on the name. As they were no public vote on the best sugested name = closed shop! its there baby so they can call it what they want, and we can add a 'the' on the front if we want! lol all done now so makes no odds.
  11. your dead right but it's up to the individual what they want to call it, life is too short to think to much about it. The Mareel has enough problems on wheather the general public adds 'the' to the front of the name, I'd be more worried on what people add to the end of the name as in 'the mareel is ......!' add you own ending, or just look at the complaints re tickets and cafe and you will see that on their own facebook page. but they seem to have fairly thick skin rather than listen to the public. maybe Crative Scotland would be more interested to read how things are going
  12. Is it open? as ill go from lerwick to have a look, i might even look in some of the other shops while I'm in the village...
  13. I dont think it matters, the mareel or mareel, its a daft word hocked oot of the shetland book of old words no-one cares about now, and used out of context. shet arts have fallen into the daft trap that if they hock oot a old shetland word it will make them more 'shetlandy', thus more shetlanders will suport it etc. Considering most of their day to day busniess will be showing american films day in, day out, it wont be that long untill folk will call it 'the cinema' or going to 'the pictures' (depending on their age) and never say the M word at all. To most folk i'd guess they have no idea or care what the word mareel actualy is or means, as i said its in a book mostly of dead words.
  14. they will be rules on the loudness at music events, enviromentle health will tell you what the safe limits are, i would have though a brand new building would have a noise limitor or some way on measuring the level to a safe level. It's a small venue, not clickimin so it should be that loud. I have found that some sound men are a bit deaf, so they wont relise its as loud as you think. put it on their facebook page - I don't think they read this
  15. what a grest idea it is to close the lerwick schools and move the lk kids to the country schools who thouthg that up? how many busses will it take to move the hundreds of kids in lerwick to even scalloway? keep it real folk. its unfortunate the state the education comittee has. The Scallway kids have got on fine, so your kids will cope too. so please dont panic. as long as the new school gets the funding then everything will be fine in the end. think that almost every shetlander in shetland and beyond that has a degree etc or went onto 5th/6th year would have gone through the anderson. so it cant be as bad at you put it. lots of children up and down Scotland get bussed to their schools far longer miles that we will be asking our children. and they have to pay extra for the pleasure too. even if the roads are bad in the winter the schools would be closed anyway so that will never be a problem
  16. only a matter of time when scalloway will be needed to put the primary kids in whiteness, tingwall nesting and burra too. it should be ok as all the parents love the scalloway school going on how they fought to keep it
  17. all this moans would be better on Mareels facebook page (if you have it), they seem to be reading that, and if your lucky they might 'copy and paste' a reply to your comments. Iv'e been to see a couple of films, i thought it was ok in screen one anyway. At the end of the day its a box with seats in it, to look at a big white wall, nothing special and nothing better than you would expect anywhere else sooth. (but good that its here) it could have done with some extra decoration to make it feel posher and unfinished, but when your watching a film does that matter? I did notice that the seat backs were lower down than most of the seats south, ie here it finishes at the back of you kneck/head where south its above your head. but does that matter? I agree about the seat numbers issue. I like to know whare i'm sitting befour i go. I was in the new cinema in Aberdeen the other month and you defently had seat numbers there. In most cinemas Iv'e been to but as the screens are so big then apart from the weekends you can sit anywhere as not many go, so it doesnt matter. (they used to do that in the Garrison when they put films on there) The hand drawings looked like grafti and should be washed off! The 'bar' outside the cinema door in the corrodor was a blockage and a daft place to put it as it mucked up the queing system. to the cinema. if it had been out of the way on the otherside it would have been a lot btter and out of the way. plus when all 200 folk came out you wouldnt fall over it. Move it to somewhere else folk! but at the end of the day its just a point of view folks which we are all alowed, good or bad. I want to get to October when they start showing current films and not the summer ones we have missed. with beter choise through the week and not the hot potch / here and there like what we have been getting
  18. Best to request that on their facebook page - they read that, see what answer you get, I like to know where my seat is going to be too. Like we used to have in the Garrison films.
  19. why didnt you just phone them than starting a thread on here? i think if you had it would ave been quicker???
  20. spoke too soon its a years contract, oh well. ill think about it after a couple of months of programming has proving its self
  21. I like the idea of the silver and gold cards, as long as the prices stay the same, £10 or £15 isnt that bad as long as you go to most films. I cant see anywhere if you have to take it for ie 6 months or a year. Being locked into a contract doen't appeal to me. Then as long as they are more than 4 new films on in a month then i think your quids in! its a bit like the unlimited cards you can get south. Problem could be if they keep the same films more than a week/fortnight. Be worth giving it a try and if it doesn't work out worth it then we can easy ditch it after a while. Also like the idea of getting film info emails, as long as its just the films, and not open the floodgates to 'we are delighted to announce' emails. so full marks to them for the ideas above
  22. Thats right everyone has the right to air their views, unless its against it - then your acused of being a trol. Someone should have opened a facebook page for those against this and other projects for people with conserns etc. Its a free world after all. too late now. So best just let them get on with it the best they can. just hope it all goes well and the till keeps ringing. They will be enough folk ready to jump on them if things don't go to plan.
