  1. Why can't we just stay on GMT, personally I hate changing time twice a year. I'm sure that there are many other ways to deal with the so-called problems that arise. Changing time by an hour, spring and autumn, just confuses my body clock!!!
  2. I appreciate that Paul. That though is very much more expensive than a bus fare so I take the only Wednesday morning bus in and the only Wednesday afternoon bus home. What irritates me though is the entrapment that my council tax is funding upon me. It can be used to help towards a public bus service but it does not. So, what do we pay council tax for - apart from the buses that run between Lerwick and Sumburgh, more often than not with no-one aboard while I do not have access to a decent bus that I require. I haven't yet mentioned Sunday when there is no bus at all. It's all crap. I pay

  4. ^ I have an appointments on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday. They are dated as such for a reason. The bus service in Hillswick is utterly crap. Of course I could walk twelve miles to Brae on a Wednesday and as I walk I could think about whether the council tax is being used to pay the fatman at the top or being used to pay for services that are required. It is not being used for the latter, methinks.
  5. Yesterday, Wednesday, I had a hospital appointment at four o'clock in the afternoon. I caught the only bus in to town from where I live in Hillswick, at half past seven in the morning. I caught the only bus home on a Wednesday at ten past five. I spent approximately seven hours waiting in Lerwick to be seen at the GB for a ten minute appointment What a wonderful bus service
  6. Hee Hee - after all they ain't.... "Ain't" ain't too grammatical but you get the idea, yeh
  7. Quite right, problem is that they spend so much time receiving their applause and so little time ensuring that their clients actually get their electricity that, at the end of the day they ain't worth a toss!!!
  8. I am a nihilist but my girlfriend is a christian, I've known buddhists and people of various other religious beliefs. Does it really matter what you are as long as you are comfortable with your own beliefs?
  9. I've just checked the Zettrans timetable and it's obvious that if you live in, or south of Lerwick then you're big and important and have to be provided with transport to and from Sumburgh Airport but if you live north or west of Lerwick then you are no better than the lower classes and no doubt capable of walking to the ferry because that's all they'll give you.
  10. How come deisel used to be half the price of petrol?
  11. Lerwick is in Shetland though. We often have to put up with the same weather as Scotland - or "The north" as it is often put, with no relevance to us at all!!!
  12. Good one DK, I'll keep my eye on this one now, thanks
  13. Oh God, all these years that they spent telling me that I was an Aquarius and I've been a Capricorn all along. Ophiuchus is only an extra-zodiacal indicator though so I don't think that it is worth getting up-tight about. If this is a big thing to you then check out http://www.ips-planetarium.org/planetarian/articles/realconstellations_zodiac.html
  14. And why was diesel half the price of petrol? Oh, I forgot - It wasn't quite so popular then, was it!!!
  15. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-12189562 Good on her!!!
  16. Sorry, can't do that, cannot put Scotland in as part of my address. I live in Shetland and to me Shetland is a place on its own, it is not part of, or subservient to Scotland. Don't get me wrong, I love Scotland, born in Edinburgh but very strong roots in Shetland and to me it's Shetland, UK.
  17. Because of my moans and groans and the help of the community council I understand that the drivers have been told that they can pick me up and take me home at 9.40am. Thank you!!! That is absolutely wonderful, it solves what could be a very large problem, not only for me but for the rest of the people that live in the area. It also allows the out-of-season tourists (and they do exist!!!) to come along and see the area and what we have to offer. Big round of applause, eh
  18. Next time the bus passes by Girzie, I'll give you a shout!!!
  19. On Thursday morning I arrived back in Shetland. I got off the boat and, as I live in Hillswick, I got on the 7.55am bus to Brae, expecting to catch the 9.40 bus from Brae up to the house in Hillswick. I stood at the bus stop over the road from the Co-op in Brae and the bus came along on time, gave me a wave and passed on by. I got a taxi. Cost? Twenty quid!!! During the summer the 9.40 service to Hillswick runs. Any other time it does not but - and it is a big but - the same bus makes the same journey at the same time because it has to get to Hillswick to depart at 10.00am with people goin
  20. Always a number of Goverments getting excited but Julian has got them upset too. Not necessarily a bad thing because it makes them sit up and think.
  21. Goodness me, the weatherman's got it right for a change. This might well be a sign of things to come, you never know!!!
  22. Have a look at North Korea Yeonpyeong island attack aftermath video
  23. Some time ago I moved house, about eight months ago, and after I moved a letter arrived at the old address, Colonial Place, and it contained a photo of my mother, Mary Dickson, nee Twatt, at her first wedding. Luckily, it was forwarded on to me and I am so delighted to get it. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mCnTxwO7Nvk/TOpZ9zxY7XI/AAAAAAAAAB8/oQUQ82_ixeg/s1600/Mum+first+wedding+001+cropped+and+sized+for+blog+background.jpg[/img] Unfortunately, with a brain the size of mine, I've forgotten who I had the conversation with so am not in a position to say thanks. Can someone please tell me, I really
