The population of Shetland loses a voice that isn't having it's strings pulled by a centralist Scots government, George.

I do genuinely believe that the SNP are the best party to run Scotland. But I want a Shetland controlled by the Central Belt political elite about as much as I want a Scotland controlled by Westminsters' political elite.......

That's perfectly fine, as is the opposing opinion that our Lib Dem chum won the election using nefarious methods and should be held to account and judged by the people of Shetland and Orkney in a by-election.

What a wonderful find, a perfect example of the hypocrisy we here from the party who object to everybody else's wrongdoing while happily accepting their own.Apart from the quote in the link that threatens legal action against The Labour party I liked this one...“My team and I are very upset with the lies and the desperate smears, which are being sent out by the local Labour campaign."

This must be the most civilised witch hunt in history, protesters who (going by the pictures) included babies in pushchairs, children and some frail looking elderly people.
These people don't look very sinister to me.
They will stop at nothing to achieve their aims... Even going as far as getting a lawyer...I even saw a...PETITION...think of the children.

Naturally, this was all my fault.  How it could possibly be my fault when I wasn't responsible for the local shops having no sliced chicken I've yet to figure out.  It's my fault for introducing Ghostie to the 'delights' of Grotesco online shopping, only to have Him yell "WTF is that green stuff?  Pesto?  It looks like something the dog puked up" or sitting there with His calculator working out price per kilo versus price per gram.  He's threatening to re-allocate my ClubCard too and He's most miffed that apparently He can't have a ClubCard in the name of Ghostrider.

Of course the simple answer is to have the system where the constituents can have their MP "recalled" if a sufficient percentage demand it.  Surely it is only fair that the electorate can claim an MP is not living up to expectations.

Why aren't the Lib Dem's looking for the same moral integrity? Why are they so happy to keep on board a blatant liar? Only one reason that Mr Liar Carmichael hasn't resigned and that is because he wants to retain a nice comfortable income and stuff the people.

@gorgonzola have you noticed... this is just like the news! what started out as a discussion about a politician lying has turned into a discussion about ukip....

and i think i've sussed it! @ghostrider takes his cues from russell brand. pre-election it's all "i'm not participating in this sham of a democracy, they don't represent us, we need a different system..." then come voting time it's all "yeah ok, i'll vote, maybe it'll change things a bit."

just to keep on topic, don't think anyone posted the change.org petition yet, over 12.000 sigs so far. the 38 degrees one has a similar number, fair chance it's mostly the same people, but still... https://www.change.org/p/alistair-carmichael-mp-resign-as-an-mp

    Tavish Scott quote...

"The second option is that he listens to his constituents, real Shetland folk who will give him a fair hearing."
A quick reminder of the election result,
A Lib Dem Majority of 10,000 was reduced to 800, these are your constituents, they are real Shetland folk.
Of course he should have a fair hearing, do it the fairest way possible, Democratically, let the "Shetland he knows" deliver their verdict.

even more striking ratio if you count the top 10...

of the 10 most widely-read papers 9 want tories or ukip at the helm. pretty obvious right wing bias there i'd say. how can't you see that? even labour have basically been hovering uncertainly over centre/centre right ground since the mandleson days.

even when we vote for them based on lies, at which point you seem to think they shouldn't be accountable after all.

even when means testing costs more than the money it's designed to save? positive encouragement is one thing, being sanctioned literally to death in some cases and forced to work 40+ hours in tesco for dole money is quite another.

cut down on corporate tax evasion and don't bail out banks who's criminal practices crashed the economy? i think i feel a graph coming on...

i don't doubt there are areas where the EU is corrupt and undemocratic. i don't know enough about it and haven't got a definite fixed opinion on it. i just don't think the debate is helped by people repeatedly shouting ukip manifesto cliches.

Wrong, totally wrong, Ghost. Not voting is acceptance by default. Not voting is allowing anyone to use and abuse you and your money. Not voting is refusing to stand up and attempt to get what is best for you and those around you. Not voting is not having the sense to at least attempt to put the best in power. None of them are perfect but some are worse than others and we have the right to the best of a bad bunch. Do nothing and Alistair Carmichael remains in place and does nothing for us except tell, or allow to be told, porkies to keep life easy for him and his ilk. Not voting is saying, "Yes, come along and rip me off!!!" Not voting is shooting yourself in the foot and there's no complaints that you can put forward about it, either.

Please use your vote wisely and don't put Shetland, or Scotland, at risk. Westminster, controlled primarily by the English, will continue to leach off the back of those around them. If given the chance again, they will continue to gain more wealth and more control, as we get weaker and poorer.

They won't even have the decency to say "Thank you."

and lets remember a vow libs/lab/cons made. another apt song

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. I heard my country calling, away across the sea, Across the waste of waters, she calls and calls to me. Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head,[6] And around her feet are lying the dying and the dead; I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns; I haste to thee, my mother, a son among thy sons. And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.   and what a silly comment we are a scottish island off the scottish coast it was settled by scots first try to not forget it.

We should all muck in to the civil war against the S.I.C. It's the only way we'll get them to replace the skips around the villages again. "They" claim that they're unnecessary but "they" don't live out in the country and if "they" do then "they" chuck it all over the banks like the rest of us who can't afford to have the council come and collect it, although "they" will deny it in court of course.

Then we can sort out Russia, Ukraine and take out ISIS while we're at it, and get home in time for tea

I do wish someone, somehow would or could correct that glaring spelling mistake in this topic's title. There's only one 'o' in the word 'losing'.
It wouldnt be so bad if the title didnt keep popping up again and again as comments are added. It would be easier to ignore if it just got lost in the posts.

It is my carefully considered opinion that SSE need to convince me that they are capable of running the supply of electricity in Shetland before I would consider them fit to run a huge wind farm.  At least two long and two short power cuts for me this year (just one weather related) and the vast number of cuts I suffered last year convince me that they are not fit and proper people to run the wind farm.  But please note this is not a criticism of the guys that go out in all weathers to repair faults.  Just the infrastructure that means there are so many faults.
