  1. They'll all be easy targets for the chemtrail jets, then......
  2. Super Puma helicopter piece of french rubbish Why?
  3. quite so. Besides there's worse things go's down around here. Some folk will hunt you down, break your skull, leave you for dead for no reason whatsoever; then get their name taken off court listings, and when the case comes up manage to avoid getting put up on the main page but allowed to slip past public view as quietly as possible, with hardly a blip on the radar. As long as you know a funny handshake it is amazing how easy it is to 'TUP' the scales of justice. http://www.shetnews.co.uk/newsbites/5420-yell-man-appears-on-assault-charge Wow. What amazing insight you have. Tinfoil time
  4. Do we have any Shetland freelancers or is everyone tied to companies?
  5. Great. Someone posts a reasonable question and is immediately pulled down by Shetlink online expert knobheads. How unusual..........
  6. I've invented one that works in the dark. You just need a glass bulb, some wire filament and a 240v supply. I reckon I'm onto a winner....
  7. Adon. You obviously don't like Shetland, all your posts since you have joined the forum are putting the place down and telling us just how bad (and backward) we all are compared to Scotland. If that's your attitude and if your postings on here are an example of your discussions with the natives up here, then it should hardly come as a shock when people don't want anything to do with you. And I seriously doubt your assertions regarding incomers moving back in droves, based upon my own observations. You've moved away physically, may I suggest you move away mentally as well? Severing all ties with a place you dislike would be a logical step to take if I were you. Logging off here permanently would do wonders for restoring balance in your humours..... Unless of course, as I suspect, you're just out for mischief.....
  8. Kendal, eh? I was walking with friends above Kendal about eight weeks ago (up on the ridge looking towards Windermere). You'll know all about rain and mist coming from round there and being involved with MR. It was a hell of a culture shock just seeing how busy Kendal high street was..how does anyone cross that road on a regular basis without getting flattened every few weeks? BTW, Kavi has a completely opposite view of Norway. If you'd said you were moving there, he'd be telling you how wonderful it all is (apart from the high suicide rate, alcoholism, huge cost of living..... )....
  9. Although Lerwick certainly has its problems with drugs - it is no different to most comparable towns in Scotland and England. In fact i'd say it's still better than most in this respect. A few people have mentioned problems with alcohol - yes there is the same 'hard drinking' culture you'll find in parts of Scotland. But if you don't get involved with those people you'll not have any problems. Look at the places you'd like to live in winter And good luck. It's a good life up here.
  10. Well, when all the local businesses have closed up through everyone being hell-bent on the 'cheap is good' mantra, when all the profits made by the large UKplc companies are being enjoyed by those outwith Shetland and you are surrounded by bland stamped-out 'retail outlets' on industrial estates it will be too late. You've lost. Go to any town in the UK and you'll see the results of this short-sightedness. Wick is a good example that's reasonably close...... I'm not saying that there is no place for the large UK retailers, but we need a balance. There will always be those who complain loudly if they think they are paying one pence more than someone else, but that's their choice. I'd sooner pay a local outfit a bit more, especially when it came to produce that is sourced in Shetland, eg: meat, fish, veg.
  11. Hmmm...there's a fair old assumption that Uk is cheaper than up here. It is, but not by as much as you'd think. Literally a couple of pence a litre in some cases.
  12. And she destroyed the bully boy NUM who waged a war of hate on anyone who didn't toe the NUM political line. My family are from the pit villages around Hemsworth and Fitzy, there were many who were glad to see Scargill broken - but they dare not speak out because of the very real threat of physical violence that existed towards any dissenters form his 'crusade' to break a democratically elected government.
  13. The problem is that Santa Claus does not attempt to govern the populace with a mixture of guilt trips, oppressive teachings and instilling fear of the unknown. 'Religious' leaders do. I'd be happier if Santa Claus was offered a non-elected position as opposed to those who belong to a mediaevel system that has no place in modern Government. And it's 'Father Christmas'...not Santa Claus, wouldn't want to offer a saint a position, would we?
  14. At my most puerile I can't help wishing I'd chosen a user name ending in the surname "Bates" just to chuckle at the resulting construction . Incidentally, despite being "well known," the Captain Pugwash aspect of that is pure myth. Pugwash, as a pirate, was truly a Free Man...surely? (Yes, I know he is just a cartoon character and never existed but I'm referring to the C17th and C18th 'Pirate' way of life.) Ha haaaar....
  15. He'd have to sell some more bits of an island that he hasn't got clear legal title to first......
  16. I'd say the Sheriff (quite rightly) was making it perfectly clear to Mr Hill that any attempt at creating a 'scene' or to begin using the court as his own personal stage (which Mr Hill was clearly expecting to be able to do) would be dealt with in no uncertain terms. His willingness to then discuss the matters in hand with Mr Hill would appear to back up my theory.
  17. Reading the ST report, it would appear that Mr Hill, having got nowhere with his claim that he does not have recognise the authority of the Shetland court, is now set to appeal to the Scottish court. Is it just me that sees something flawed in his consistency here? Appealing to a judiciary that he says has no right to try him?
  18. Sour grapes. Your endless sneering on this thread negates any previous respect for your opinion. Run along now.
  19. And most up here view him as nothing more than an amusing (but rather irritating - think Graham Norton) irrelevance. I've said all along that he's nothing more than an attention seeking self-promoter, just look at his track record in his dealings with the MCA and the rescue services around the UK. He is of the opinion that no matter what he thinks, it must be regarded as The One True Path. His newsletters are good, I'm subscribed and they certainly are worth reading.
  20. Thankyou, we are now both enlightened........ Could you enlighten me on this: When I typed in a r s e in my last post, it came up with the awful American word 'ass', what's the point in that? I daren't type in 'hello' any more in case it comes out as "Yo, Bro!" BTW my dog is now online trying to track you down....
  21. My dogs just read this and told me she's going to bite your ass at the first opportunity.
  22. When I saw the title I thought someone with a bit of business acumen had started a mobile 'Pets At Home' service......ah well, never mind.... Anyway my dogs a damn sight cleaner and better behaved that some of the stinking foulmouthed eejits I've had to tolerate on buses over the years.
  23. Nah, that would just lower us to SS's level. A group of private individuals descending on another group of private individuals from and in a foreign nation, and forcefully preventing that group of individuals from participating in an activity that is wholly legitimate in that nation, is the modern day equivalent of a pitchfork weidling mob of vigilantes. Which was my point entirely.....
  24. It did come across as being rather harsh, Kavi. Not my intention. I'm more than aware of Shetlands'historical and modern links with the Faeroes, my point is that being linked (however closely) does not mean that we should back something that is morally wrong simply because they're our 'mates'. Rather a backward attitude, methinks.
  25. Cobblers. Why the hell should we 'stand shoulder to shoulder' with someone just because they are our neighbours? You seem a bit desperate to garner support on this one, Kavi...is that because you know you're on a losing wicket?
