Angus, What is the Law on displaying Blue Lights on vehicles other than emergency vehicles? I think that you should do some form of education to these truck companies. I witnessed 3 cars pull over to the side of the road as we all saw Blue lights coming around a bend, just to find out it was a truck, lit up like a christmas tree with blue LED lights.

Valid point! Where will this be moved to? The whole idea of putting the heli-pad there is so that it is close to the Hospital. What will happen to the 10's of £1000's invested in that. I would imagine this hasn't even been thought about or taken into consideration.

The Helicopter was apparently out looking for someone. The Police were also in Gulberwick along with Oscar Charlie.

Well of all people you would have thought the police were aware of what road markings meant. Now bare in mind i wasn't there, i have purely been told by someone that was, the police car had no lights or sirens on, it purely pulled out in front of the pathway of the car which was already on the roundabout causing an accident. Anyone else and i would hazard a guess that they will be in court shortly... will much come of this given it was the police? I doubt it. Still as stated, I would never want to be in this position of my word against the polices.

A peerie birdy tells me that there was a small accident today at Grantfield this afternoon when a police car came shooting out onto the roundabout to try and catch someone and instead of looking the officer put is foot down trying to pull out and instead ended up with a car planted in the side of his, coz he never gave way to the traffic already using the roundabout. Any truth in this or is it the Shetland Rumour mill at its best again.

Just been looking at the plans for this. The only question that sticks in my mind is how will it work being so close to the helipad. Does it effect this? Ive seen a few times the helicopters coming in right over the top of the camp site, im not sure how it will work with a 3 story building in the way.

Its closed at nights as well. There is usually a poster on the door that says its closed and if its an emergency then dial 999! Its a bloody joke, at the weekends we often have to phone for the police (nature of job) and when you phone the local number you get put through to Someone in Wick, Thurso, Orkney or Inverness, we given up phoning now.

Why didn't the Jigsaw helicopter swing into action here and go to Unst for the sick Patient and leave the Coastguard to lift the boys to safety?

The offshore jigsaw helicopter is contracted to the Ambulance Service to provide an air ambulance service within Shetland.. However, it is limited in when it can fly and where it can fly. (From Shetland Times) It cant fly at night for example. So whats the point in having an air ambulance that cant fly at night. At night, if there is an emergency, there is no ferry for the ambulance and the contracted air ambulance cant fly, hence why the coastguard helicopter has had to be called in to cover the short comings. Tavish does have a point, why should they rely on the coastguard to pick up the slack when the Ambulance is paying for a service that the air ambulance cant deliver.

Just the usual... It will end in a slagging match.
