  1. http://www.shetland.gov.uk/news-advice/Festiveopeningtimes.asp Not all SIC services shut down. Some staff are working as normal. Depends on the service.
  2. Wonderful, naughty, funny entertainment. Scottish Opera - please come back! The stage sets were very good. The bar scene was striking. And the fly/sex scene - what can I say!
  3. Anyone tried to book flights through Flybe website this weekend? Advert in Shetland Times says 25% off, every seat, every flight. We've tried and the price only appears to reflect the ADS discount not the 25% disc as well.
  4. Has anyone flown with their children lately? We are flying with our 2 year old in May with Flybe and I'm unsure what ID she needs? The Flybe website isn't very clear. Do they need their own passport? Do I add her to my passport? Or do I just take her Birth Certificate?
  5. Anyone have experience of this type of car seat: http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-cybex-pallas-2-in-1-berry/119458300/type-i/ There is also a similar one by Jane, called Montecarlo plus with Xtend Group 1 impact shield. I would interested to hear from anyone using this type of car seat.
  6. I've used Patient line a couple of times. Use email and internet. There is a keypad, it's small, but managable. From memory, keypad is approx 3" x 6". I used headphones (they are provided), but wish I had taken my own. It was a life saver in the middle of the night when you couldn't sleep!

Anyone heard if they are still coming or have they cancelled?
  9. http://www.shetland-news.co.uk/ from the front page on Shetland News website NOTE FROM POLICE - 10.50am In the interest of safety, Police are advising against ALL travel on Shetland is it that bad out there?
  10. Apart from phoning up the bus company, anyone know how to find out which buses are running? Nothing on here: http://www.zettrans.org.uk/news/ Or here http://www.shetland.gov.uk/council/
  11. (** mod edit - merged with existing thread **) Anyone know if the schools are closed tomorrow? I've listened to Radio Shetland just before 1pm, but there was nothing on there about closures.
  12. Recently went to the Scalloway hotel, disappointing as I had previously had really good meals there. But this time, I could have made far better at home, also the service wasn't as good as it has been previously. I've also recently been to Baroc (Golden Coach), excellent meal, good service. Only thing was we had to keep asking for drinks.
  13. I travelled all over Shetland for my work at one time. Even though I have lived here nearly all my life (on & off), I still didn't know my way around very much. But I got very good directions from clients, they seemed used to it! Shops, neighbours, post offices n ferry men, were usually excellent at helping out. Off topic, but did you mention your wife is working for NHS/SIC? I know SIC workers who have to use the ferries get a card, which they show on ferry journies and the cost is then charged back to the service.
  14. Anyone know if there are any baby sign language classes in Shetland? Anyone got any experience of doing BSL with their baby?
  15. I was only away for the weekend, so a subscription would be no good! I could have bought the Oban news and the Stornaway Gazette, but no Times.
  16. Anyone know if I can buy the Shetland Times in Glasgow?
  17. I don't really have much to add. Expect to say that the isle accomodation is free, and when you are staying there for a while that is a real bonus. I was never told that if my partner couldn't get into the isle accomodation and had to pay to stay elsewhere that he could claim this back. I know a lot of couples that have been down to have babies and have never heard anyone mention this before. The other plus point is that your partner doesn't have to travel, he is just up the stairs! Negative points - dirty carpets, no whb in the loo, bath and showers are yuck (I don't think it would matter how much you cleaned them!), very little to entertain little ones, smoking room still smells of smoke. But I would stay there again and I would take my little one with me if I had too, not sure if my partner would stay there though, and he's not as fussy as me! Also some shetland mums are doing fund raising at the moment. They are on facebook, if you PM me I can give you info.
  18. Hi, I've stayed in the isles accom. I don't have time to post today, will try tomorrow!
  19. ^^ good advice, once they are happy in a place, don't move them around. I have managed to kill plants by moving them to what I thought was a better location in the room! furrydice - I'm PM'd you
  20. I can give you some baby/small spider plants, and some cuttings from an unknown plant (money plant type), boston ferns, achimenes rhizomes (like peerie seeds), begonia cuttings, sail plants. Would give you a cuttings from my ivy, but he is looking poorly just now! I love my house plants, I could spend days working with them, but never have enough time. Spring time is probably the best time to get cuttings, as that is when I would do some repotting, but house plants grow fairly well any time of the year as long as you have the right conditions. I would get a book to see what plants are suited to your house. Anyway, let me know if you want cuttings and I will get busy.
  21. Thanks to aabody for their suggestions. We went for this one: http://www.ukweathershop.co.uk/acatalog/info_ES_WS2350.html Would have gone for a Davis one, but too many pennies!
  22. Some full time council employees do work 37 hours. I am one of them!
