    Finding scabs
  1. I'm not sure if you seem to think I have some connection with the Coastguard, but just to clarify (as we're still waiting on you to!) I don't. So to answer your question, I am not going to sit here and state that every Coastguard station that ever was, should be retained forever. That would be foolish. I felt that Pentland should not have closed and I assume Tyne Tees and Oban were closed at the same time. I can't really comment on that as I don't know enough about the situation. If your hypothetical situation were to arise, then yes, I would support the majority of stations remaining open as I do right now, regardless of whether Shetland remains open or not. I find it despicable that the honourable member for Runnymede has set station against station and am proud of the way that the campaign locally has not sunk to his depths and taken his bait. If you did just a little research you would find that in particular Shetland and Stornoway are jointly fighting for both to remain open 24 hours. Both our MSP ( Thats Tavish Scott whose Government is is Edinburgh and not Westminster as you wrongly asserted in an earlier post) and MP are supporting this. I do find it pitiful that others seem to have taken his bait and are endulging in this moomin-for-tat (you'll have to work that out for yourselves! Swear filter has kicked in) against stations. Now that I've answered your question, will you look back and answer some of the questions that have been asked of you? It would be nice if you could do a little research and get a basic grasp of the facts first too. It's a bit tedious having to wade through misinformed junk and really doesn't warrant me putting too much effort into replying as you are managing perfectly well yourselves to scupper your own arguements. Thank you muppet for your reply. You will see if you read my posts that i too support all stations in this fight. However some don't read the post properly and only see what they want to see. individual campaigns are fine but shouldn't detract froma concerted national campaign. Because as you allude to each station may no probably will become suspicious of others. human nature. My fear is that in the past coastguards have not been united in other campaigns. hence my provocative introduction. Of course i know that Tavish Scott is in Holyrood my point being he is a member of the Lib Dem party who is in government and it is they the westminster government who are pushing through these cuts. Now if Tavish Scott does support the campaign against coastguard closures let us hear him publicily speak out about the folly of the westminster government's and their plans to close all these coastguard statoions. If, however, he is only interested in Shetland coastguard, and lets be honest here his reelection hopes..........well. That also goes for your MP Alistair Carmichael. Let me say this the more MPs or MSPs of the westiminter govering parties who speak up and against these closures and the government the better chance we will have of defeating them. Unfortunately writing in forums will change nothing. I have written to my MP, MSP and other bodies on a national basis (supporting all stations), lets get everyone doing similar. I now wonder who will pick the worst out of this post not seeing the positive.
  2. Care to translate please? What the heck you meaning here? It is a sad, and erroneous, attempt at sarcasm directed against the Shetland people by trying to pander to the Shetland dialect. The word he is scratching about to find is 'peerie' meaning 'small'. In any case the diminutive form of peerie is 'peerie mootie', not the use of the word 'peerie' twice in a row. I think my spelling is correct, but I am happy for a native Shetlander to correct me if I am mistaken. So much material in this thread for a comedy of errors Ah right! I guess that was them demonstrating their mastery of the Shetland dialect then. I'm a born and bred Shetlander and speak the dialect, but struggled a bit with that one. Okay I will have to go for my break after this. Very selective muppet, now read my other posts after that one. You have just demonstrated again your ability to only see what you want to see. there is none so blind as those who will not see.
  3. Before I go for my break, two questions for quarfie the tank commander and northerie and muppet as well Did you support Tyne Tees or Oban coastguards when their station were closing? and Hypothetically in March if the management were to say, because of your campaign, Shetland will remain open as they are now. Would you lot support all the other stations in their fight against these proposals? I expect you'll ignore both questions. Or surprise me.
  4. Now we get to it northerie. Your a Tory. And who do you think it is doing this to the Coastguard? It's not the PCS. Management are doing what the Government wants. so Answer - The Tories How stupid does that make you
  5. And you wonder why people are not supportive of Shetland? Quarfie and northerie you both have been extremely rude in your manic attack on anyone who doesn't wholeheartedly follow exactly your line. Read my posts you will see on the whole I support all the stations. but the red mist is making you blind. then northerie you come out with that drivel in your last post???? oyoyoy that shows everyone what your all about, you don't care about any other station and if Shetland were to be the MOC you would be silent in the condemnation of the proposal document and how it might impact on other stations. i'm all right mate bu88er you lot would be your motto. shame on you.
  6. Thats what Mr Massey is saying and banking on. With fingers crossed no doubt. I wonder if he will take any of his advisors into the court if he is charged with Corporate manslaughter. Probly not as he did say the buck stops with him.
  7. Absolutely agree. The fact that some are coming on here and being so aggressive suggests our campaign is having an effect and some folk are peeing their pants because they thought they had us nailed! But as per usual Shetland rises to the challenge and punches well above its weight. Cages well and truly rattled! There is only one group of people who are being agressive, and thats those from Shetland. Why don't you ask that nice Mr Tavish Scott to write to his Westminster government and comdemn thm for what they are doing. I bet he won't. Or Mr Carmichael to do the same.
  8. I achieved what I intended. Get a response. I did that and some. You showed me that there is only one agenda on your collective minds (coastguards). Save Shetland Coastguard. If that was the case and you won that and Shetland Coastguard was saved that would be at the expense of Stornoway Coastguard. It still would be a hollow victory. ‘’A Sub-Centre’’, maybe designated to do the weather broadcast for all of Scotland and the North of England. Only operating as coastguards when an incident occurred in daytime. Each station can run their individual campaigns if the wish, but the only way of remaining open for business as true Coastguard stations is to fight these proposals as a NATIONAL COLLECTIVE CAMPAIGN. Do not help the management in any way by giving them ideas. Give them questions, hard searching questions. The proposal document provides us with all the ammunition you need coupled with your own knowledge of how the MCA operates regarding equipment that isn’t fit for purpose. Or put another way isn’t fir for what they hope it will do. Get your MP’s to table parliamentary questions which you provide co-ordinated by the PCS. I have just been informed of something you may not know. The Prime Minister told a lie during PM’s question time. He was asked by Sarah Woolaston MP about Brixham Coastguard. His reply ‘’there will be more front-line coastguards in place after the process is complete’’. He dodged the question asked about Belfast Coastguard. That was two questions on Wednesday. See what I mean, Cameron may have been badly advised but he still lied to parliament. MP’s sympathetic to the cause should exploit this and anymore gaffs he makes. Collective and united. And the LIB DEMS are still Sh*te
  9. Not trying to put you down, kiech, but if you had seen the sort of personal dedication, the huge benefit of on-the-spot local knowledge and the successful way a local emergency at sea is dealt with (and I have seen it many times as a press observer) then you would not even be asking the question. Local knowledge, understanding of nuances of tides, currents, weather patterns and suchlike can NOT be learned over a radio or phone in the middle of an incident. Shetland Coastguard cover a truly vast area, and have built up an enormous wealth of knowledge which it is simply not possible to move to a different location. Is not other coastguards at other stations not equally dedicated. Do they not have on-the-spot-local knowledge. Can all these nuances be learned over the radio or phone at other coastguard stations? Doesn't othere stations not also have the same worries about transferring the wealth of local knowledge to a different location. It seems arogant of you to suggest otherwise. And by the way other station took action, Rather than do nothing and expecting all the benefits that the sucrifices of others might have won.
  10. Why should anyone support Shetland Coastguard? You worked normally when the rest of your Coastguard colleagues were striking for better pay. Which you would have benefitted from. Secondly, why are you moaning about being closed, you voted LIB DEM and so you are getting what you voted for. Danny Alexander although not your MP is responsible for the cuts, and he's LIB DEM. The people of Moray should also stop moaning about RAF Lossiemouth for the same reason. Thirdly, Shetland is the least busiest coastguard station in the UK. Don't try to deny that one. Fourth, the loss of 15 jobs is hardly likely to bring the Shetland economy crashing down now is it? So I ask again why should anyone support Shetland Coastguard station
