I will be stopping on the Isle during my hectic voyage this xmas, so guess the Tardis will be making a visit to the NS and beyond, the twilight zone is about to begin.

I have heard that Frank Watt from Vidlin in the best in Shetland, does anyone else know anyone in this field?

Sire, I assure you no aggression was intended. Since back on this topic I do wonder if being unable to pay for the tv licence at the post offices will make much difference. After all there are few "pay points" (the new place to pay) in Shetland.

I have many properties and have a TV licence for every one of them, there is no need to feel sorry for anyone who has been caught for not having a TV licence....it is simply their problem, they know the law if they don’t want a licence don’t get a TV SIMPLE.

 

It is these types of inconsiderate people that cost me and everyone else more money each year from the taxman, for their lack of responsibility to pay for what they are due, unlike all the other millions of TV viewers who do.

 

I for one will sit back tonight and the rest of the week with nothing to worry about when someone knocks on the door.....I rest my case.

 

Because, Dear Doctor, the world is not full of perfect people. We can forget to renew the licence, we can have been given a tv and not yet got round to it or we might simply not have the money.

 

After all, although the BBC is a worthy recipient of the licence fee the way the fee is raised is unjust. A few years back I was paying the same licence fee for my little tv that I rarely watched(because I worked evenings) as were some friends of mine with 5 tvs and at least 3 of the family working.

Now I cant speak for all the other peasants out there...only joking before anyone else wants to have a pop, but I always get a reminder for the renewal date, you can set up direct debit and never have to worry, or indeed as Fjool has pointed out 10p a day, if this is correct is not a lot of money for most people to afford, or indeed be like a Big Mouth who has no TV, pays no license and therefore does not screw the system.

There is never ending breakthroughs with dogs against drugs, as you say Perrie Brian indeed much of the time the Police rely on tip offs and the fact remains open as to whether the dogs would have pulled out the low life, drug pushing, money grabbing, scum bag criminal ( Rant over sorry ), but I feel I must share this amazing information with you!!!

Would I be right in thinking that people who want drugs legalised are either taking drugs or living in a dream world, burying their heads in the sand and not looking at the problem.

Simple. It is the fact that some substances are illegal that means the users operate in the blackmarket. Operating in this nasty, profit driven, secretive, blackmarket is the lifestyle I am talking about. It promotes a poor quality, irregular supply of substances which, when addictive, or used improperly, can be dangerous.

 

This is bad for us all, users and non-users. Poor quality, improperly used, dangerous substances can lead to poor health (or even death ). In the case of addictive substances it leads to further crime such as robbery.

WHAT?

Sure, nobody would choose to be a heroin addict but the actual fact is that being a heroin addict is a much smaller problem if the supply is readily available and well regulated. I've seen many nicotine addicts (was one myself) get very unpleasant to be around when their supply is removed - otherwise they just function like normal people.

Valid point Fjool-however I do not regard myself a professional as I stated in this subject my professional subject is one quiet different.

This does not restrict me to voice my opinion only, in an open forum, in which is evedant to see, a subject that raises tones from individuals with a strong view, different to my own.

I read and analyze and 99% of the time think about whether I agree or not, others can choose what them do themselves.

Unfortunately we are living in a country which offers so much emphasis on freedom of choice ideas, and strong opinions on the lets legalize all the drugs theory, when the reality is, this will take years to pass through our government.

So this leaves us with today and tomorrow with the laws we must abide with until they change, if indeed they ever will.....and the big question!!

What happens now...how do we stop the deterioration of an Island being affected more so with class A drugs, as many people in this forum have highlighted?

Indeed if anyone qualified can offer evidence on the difference between Alcohol and illegal drugs one being better than the other I look forward to your reply, I am not qualified in this field and only offer my opinion in this forum as a person who has witnesses people who have been led astray and fallen victim to Heroin and crack, it is so sad, some have nothing left but their endless misery in chasing their next fix, some are less lucky and left life through many different circumstances, as someone highlighted you can live a perfectly normal life on heroin this statement amazes me, WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT TOO!!!!

Shetland is unique in that we could more or less stop heroin and cocaine from coming in, with a bit of extra effort.

 

I have no problems with drugs like cannabis, as it does very little harm, I say let the police focus solely on the supply of cocaine and heroin, the drugs that are highly addictive and cause the damage.

 

Stop the drugs getting in, starve the supply and the problem will simply go away.

I don't think concentrating on how the drugs get here is the answer. If we can't keep drugs out of prisons, we're never going to keep them out of Shetland.

Prisons and drugs indeed is a problem as highlighted on the BBC news today.

But you appear to have a narrow view on this point; every angle must be explored in the fight against this evil drug and its misuse.

It is ignorant to presume that the Prison issue is the only factor encouraging the use of drugs,

What first leads innocent people to try the drug?.....how do they get the drug?.......and when they are hooked, where do they keep getting the drugs from on an Island?

Please forgive me if I am wrong but I was not aware of the fact it naturally grew on Shetland.

Where do the drugs come from?

There are only three possibilities to consider on how the drug gets into Shetland, do the official need to drive this area harder….what are the recourses needed to deal with this problem?

Heroin and crack addicts in Shetland, is a horrible fact, but they are everywhere, the demographics of the world are changing so are the risks that the new age drug takers are taking.....it is sad that that is the goal of their life.

Some could say so what let them go to an early grave...but these people are someone’s sons or daughters, mothers or fathers, someone’s sibling.

People like to turn a blind eye until that word IFappears, as TROUT has pointed out, however da ness tattie man has his own agenda in how to deal with this situation, not everyone I’m sure would agree but good on him for his honesty.

There are some evil people in Shetland and elsewhere who are set on destroying as many lives in Shetland as possible with their never ending crusade of selling this low life drug, to weak people.

The problem stems from the root, dig it up, destroy it and have a problem free zone.
