  1. But it appears to be okay when making reply to a previous assertion in a dialogue.
  2. ...perfect place to discuss an anonymous piece of writing.
  3. Not much chance with Foula. The Americans would be in first to win the hearts and minds. Hmmm, going back to Crofter's village theory.
  4. If it deserves to be made worse so be it. That is what is up for discussion.. and yes, on an anonymous forum which exists for the reason of discussion and debate does it not? I would also have no problems putting my name in public to voice my opinions there as well. Laughing at the fact that I have bitten implies there was something that I was fooled by; something that wasn't what it appeared to be... I have fallen for the bait, taken the lure... idiot me!! No, I am voicing an opinion on something I see as a base slur against some children. Nothing clever, no bait, and I am still waiting for someone with a modicum of wit to explain the bit I missed that could make me the object of LUHA committee's laughter. Given the global prestige of UHA and the true creative talent and skill that goes into the Galley, the bill painting, Jarl squad uniforms etc, I think it's a great shame that the bill, which don't forget is for public scrutiny, cannot follow suit and I figure the UHA committee should look at handing that job to someone who might understand the concept of what it should be. Satire and humour so they can make a proper job of it too.. Also they might consider moving with the times and tailoring the same bill within the boundries where it is so accessable now on a global scale. The internet is a powerful tool as I'm sure the committee knows. I seem to recall some unfortunate being stripped of his future Jarldom through some 'soothmoother' comments made on a Bebo page. Were they laughing at that trivial little matter or did they take the furore seriously? Might be wise to look at this one too and consider any logical or rational comments that have reared because of it. I don't believe in the 'better to let it drop' arguement as it panders to the mob rule attitude of UHA and whatever is the spirit and tradition of it there is still the possibility to go too far and in this instance I believe they have, however small the point might be it's a pity. Thats all.
  5. ^^an I faer at nae amoont o oil in dy haunds wid change dat!
  6. Weel, whaurever du hails frae du haes brawly little regaird fur dy neebors needs on da peerier isles.
  7. Bravo Crofter! That fairly says it for me too. What rankles me though is the presumption that we should accept anything that goes in the name of satire, lampooning etc just because it is in the spirit and tradition of UHA, Not so! What the squad acts do and get away with is a completely different matter from what is considered suitable for public exhibit in the bill. I choose to have nothing to do with the uncouth drukken raami and they can dispose of their councillors and each other in the manner of the wicker man for all I really care, but I think I have a right to make an opinion on the part of it that I could access from my computer, and my point is the same as most objectors of this bill that it was in poor taste. Yeah boys, I doot you're pishin intil da wind, bit mair fur da lack o midder wit!
  8. What a haverin fuil!! You can equate that to Shetland as a whole from the UK mainland. Livin here in Edinburgh I'm not that happy to think of taxes being squandered on air-ambulance flights from Shetland to Aberdeen. Why can't you accept that it would be cheaper for all if you relocated to an area near a large hospital? ...and how many toonies can thank their lifestyle choice through employment generated by the outlying islands in fishing and aquaculture?
  9. Tanks fur yon Crofter! Looks laek my kind o decadent soiree wi a better class o tranny dan Lerwick can offer! Ah'll hopfully be heidin fur da village last week o April. assumin of coorse dat aa da transatlantic flights irna shockfou wi schuilbairns. I believe J.R.White bowt oot Bloomingdales fashionhouse on 59th & Lexicon avenue so ah'll maybe pick up a proper pair o dungarees at dunna hing in a knitchel aboot da er$e. Fine fur da tauties du keens.
  10. This idiot's shed is in darkness. But I was wondering if it maybe referred to Greenwich village and not Scalloway at all? The gaily shed is green! Grist fur da mill!! An yas, I do believe I heard keety o da Bod makin meention dastreen aboot dem closin doon da Schuils in da States an muvin da bairns ta Lerook.. or wis dat sometin idder aboot state schuils?? Damned o me can mind! bit right enyoch, hit soonds laek somethin at George W. Bush widda said. Feth, hit might just be funny efter aa!
  11. I have spoken to so many people over the last few days that absolutely loved everything about last Tuesday/Wednesday, not one person has mentioned the part of the bill that this thread relates to, what a surprise to see people picking holes in it here!! could that be because you are on a thread discussing that part of the bill? I suggest you go to another thread if you want to expound and gush about the glorious spectacle as a whole. You'll maybe see that I'm not there either critisicing all things Shetland.
  12. Me no! I am just a village idiot. Nobody can take me seriously least of all myself Going completly of the point here, an idiotic little tangent of irony, I seem to recall that most of the headmasters and teachers at the AHS were village idiots too. What exactly is my point here? Can any other idiots shed some light? If only my world had been that vast grand metropolis that exists between Solotti's and da Fort Chippy I would have been able to express myself or get the joke. Now, here's a challenge to a non-idiot... explain it to me! Would love to talk more, but on a serious note, some hens just got into the kitchen... and I gotta go and shoo them back into the livingroom!
  13. The crowds that were visible around the town through the day and at the procession at night along with the attendances at all the halls this year would make me think your comment is maybe just your own opinion and not the opinion shared by many others. Cheers Agreed Styumpie!! How do these slavering, balding, pot-bellied red-necks think they really look on a national stage burping their Hip-hip-hurrahs when they are rolled out as embassadors for Shetland? Regarding the Bill business, coming from Unst I got my share of 'country bumpkin/ village idiot' treatment during my stint at the AHS and I read this as sad testament to the mentality that exists in the toon, sadder still coming from adults aimed at children. I read it several times trying to find something that may have eluded me, but alas, I can only see an offensive comment composed and posted with no comprehension of banter (far less satire), completely devoid of intellect, humour or wit. But then again, it was written by a 'toonie' so what can you expect? Sorry if I have offended anyone here, but you hardy toon vikings proclaim to get what you axe for.
  14. May I say that in the heyday of my youth I've been thrown out of several Norwegian bars and clubs for being an obnoxious drunken sphincter - even got thrown out of the thule once! - which I consider an act of God. Can't blame cheap alcohol for the Norwegian incidents - more to do with a mania that grips some guys who've been couped up on a boat for weeks to hit the shore like it was the wild west. We're all sphincters when the frame of mind and circumstance dictates. X
  15. Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley. Leonard Cohen takes some beating but one man and a guitar gives this song the edge on the original. Maybe I make no sense but only Jeff Buckley could create such complexity with the simplicity of it.
