  1. Well! Well! Surprise! Surprise! The council has decided (behind closed doors) to give mareel £1.1 million to clear their feet, while they close schools, cut staff in care homes for the elderly, take away our skips, close our public toilets etc etc. Just like Nero they will fiddle while Rome burns. I never thought I would say this, but I give up, it's time to get out. Born and bred here and lived here all my life, but with all this stress it is time to go.
  2. When SLAP owns the whole Staneyhill why do they have to take over the campsite for the new school. If they were building for a smaller number of pupils e.g 800-900 they could fit the school in without needing to use the campsite on the flat. Why do they insist upon building this school for 1200 pupils, is it something to do with the grants they are to receive.
  3. I see that what nobody mentions is that in the secondary schools like Aith or Sandwick, we are not talking about small schools, because the number they intend to move is about 100 hundred pupils per school. You cannot say that it is a small unviable number of pupils. It also has better Standard grades results in Aith compared to the Anderson High, so it seems quite stupid to put them to Lerwick for a lesser education plus the longer travelling and of course the children from the farthest away areas having maybe to stay in a hostel all week, which is not good for family life. How can they say that keeping children in a hostel can be cheaper as keeping them at home at their own schools before they pay for building of hostels plus the staff needed to look after them.[/url]
  4. I see someone writing a comment in the Shetland times saying they were able to buy a ticket at 10.55 no problem, but my next door neighbour was told at 10.15 on telephone that all tickets had sold out. How come? She had been trying both box office and telephone from 10.00 am and finally got through on telephone to be told Sold Out.
  5. I got my tickets no problem at 10, but my next door neighbour was trying at exactly same time and couldn't get ant so telephoned and they were all sold out in minutes they said. You said there were more for sale now so I telephoned but they said all sold out
  6. Why do you accuse me of slander. Maybe you should find out more about the things you write about from both sides before you judge people. All crofters in the area concerned were invited by letter to attend, which most of us duly did. Unless you were a crofter in the area you would not have been asked. I will not be replying again as I see that there is no use speaking the truth to people who do not want to hear it.
  7. I am very very angry tonight. I live in the area affected and went to all Viking energy meetings and was also at the Bixter Hall when they tried to persuade us crofters how much money we were going to get if we would agree to this scheme. No Viking energy people there, no counsillers there, in fact no Shetlanders there except us who were going to be affected by it. There were lawyers from Edinburgh, Glasgow etc and South people representing birds, crofting etc . They all quoted figures of great profit which we argued was false knowing the area and local facts including the price of interconnector cable. It was a written exercise in the hope we would be dumb enough to believe what they said. I looked up the Edinburgh lawyers on internet before I went and they were known as the most crooked lawyers in Scotland, and one of their partners had been in prison for corruption which I let them know I knew. I find it disgusting that other Shetland people can agree with this when it is going to affect our lives so much here. There are plenty of jobs around in Shetland at the moment . I know lots of employers trying to get workers and getting no replies as there is so much work in Sullom. I could never push for this for another area of Shetland or any other scheme that would be to the detriment of the area and the people living there.
  8. I have a relative with Chrones disease and when working in the town found that it was nigh on impossible to manage without the toilets at lochside, and as has been mentioned before with work boots and work clothes on would not go to clickamin centre, nor would he be welcome there in that state. I think that maybe if some of the council officials had the same complaint and were in the same circumstances, instead of sitting in offices handy with the toilet they might understand what like it is.
  9. Was anybody at the hustings recorded event last night in Lerwick , or heard how it went
