    S.E.R.F.

Hi Oor-Weil, the quote you like, the one about grace etc is an Alcoholics Annonymous "Prayer". I don't know the origins of it before that, or if they created it themselves. Thought it's quite funny since you were suggesting i lay off the alcopops. I too am trying not to be thin skinned, i just find the injustices of this world very upsetting. There are so many bazar things like for example how half the food produced in the world goes to waste and yet there are people starving to death. The other day one of our "celebrities" i can't mind which one, spent 2.5 million on a watch as a birthday present for her partner. I don't resent others having money, a lot of people work very hard etc so that's not the issue, there's some strange fundamental principle that seems wrong somehow. It leaves me at a bit of a loss?

It has nothing to do with anything. Scottish, or Shetlandic, is a title for a people, nothin more. We are a part of the UK and considering independance, so "Scottish" is an issue. I know i have been treated different simply due to my English accent. We are all in this together, not Shetland, not Scotland, not the UK, not Europe, but the whole world are one eccosystem that needs to support the lowest and raise them up so we all have basic human rights. Equally being Educated has nothing to do with anything. Education is luck, life chance, those that get it and are in a place to use it are the lucky ones, that is all. This is why i say serfs should take a stand. We have rights and our own "heart" beliefs. We can help others, we can change things, but we need to stand together.

Are you a S.E.R.F.? Scottish? Educated? Redundant? foot-sucked? I am not Scottish. – raised here. I am not Educated. – A few Highers. I am not Redundant. – I am disabled and work 8 hours a week. I am foot-sucked. – I have little future. Serfs were medieval, un-free people bound to the landlord. (Collins Dic’.) Are we bound to the government? We are dependant, controlled, contained. The government is raising our benefits by 1% while they want a £30,000 pay raise. The cost of living will go up by 2-3% if we are lucky, that means we have to survive off less. I would like to earn £30,000 a year. And it’s not that I don’t try! I would like to be more educated but how is a cleaner or shop worker supposed to have time to get an education. I don’t have parents that went to OxBridge, or Edinburgh or St Andrews. I have no children. But I want to see the children of Scotland and Shetland prosper. That means education for serfs, work and a meaningful life for all. Not foot-sucked but Future. We have an opportunity that the original serfs didn’t have. We go to school, we have internet access for free at the library, we can change things for our children, the children of Shetland, of Scotland, it is up to us to see that our children prosper.
  4. We are supposed to compost garden matter at home, great, i have lots of peelings etc and no garden. I thought it all went to the SHEAP to get burned?
  5. I know God exists cos he talked to me, talks to me. From what i can tell he's way into inclusivity. Look for him and he is there, knock and the door shall open etc. God is..
  6. I walk my dog round the Knab every day, more or less, we see a baby otter regularly, fought the dog over the otters dinner - dog didn't deserve the fish the otter had caught - i think perseverance is the thing, before the baby otter there was an adult doing the same route
  7. What is WEEE? I just lost a broken cooker, i hae old lightbulbs lying round the house cos the 'energyefficient' ones have dangerous gasses and i don't want to send them to the dump. None of it makes any sense. In despair. Ann
  8. will do what i can, my folks have the same problem.
  9. Hi, Seaweed is great, full of nutrients, spread as much as you can. However, when you rake it up from the shore give it time so the animals in the weed can escape back to the sea, also it needs to be rain washed so you don't polute the soil with salt, so leave it on the shore above high tide for some time to let the salt wash away. All the best. Ann
  10. I don't know if we are causing global warming or not, i do feel that we use too many resources and given that others are living in poverty we need to share things out more equally, that doesn't mean charity just a level playing field. As we see with China, they are building coal powered fire stations we can't say to them "you have no right to develop" we can't say to an Indian that he has no right to a car when some of us have 2. What i mean is, we have to be more realistic about our requirements and accept that everyone is entitled to a warm safe place to live and work. See how they are going to cull badgers because they spread TB, yet we get upset when someone in Africa kills an elephant because it keeps destroying their crops, that's serious hypocracy in my books.

  12. If you want to donate food to others in Shetland then you can drop stuff off - dried or tinned food, toiletries etc at the Catholic church in Market street(St Margarets) or the Episcople church near Greenfield square and the church of Scotland. Also i think the Salvation Army are open quite a lot. I buy an extra couple of items each week. A few months ago all my money went to pot and they were very good to me for the couple of weeks i needed help. [/b]
  13. I totally agree with you Speccy, I think a lot of folks don't understand the chaotic lifestyles some people live. Trying to find money for food is a big enough issue. I can imagine the distress caused to someone old and fragile who gets an evil note through the door, and if you go over drawn with the bank then disaster!!
  14. I can go with the MacMandate, set up loads of the golden arches in every area of conflict, soon all the warring parties would be too fat to fight.
