  1. If my memory is right I'm sure the said travel agents once received a National Award for booking more Train tickets via Aberdeen than any other in the country (during the 1980's oil boom). The headline in the newspapers making a big deal of the irony that their nearest railway station is in Bergen.

    I-pod Help

^You can do a reset on an i-pod (think you have to hold the off/on button and the select button down for 5 secods or something like that) - Check on the Apple website for details - It worked for my kids one a way back
  3. Don't you mean the Lerwick Street Walkers?
  4. quote="unlinkedstudent"] I haven't looked at the breakdown up here of Council income but CT does not make up all of the Council's income. For example, I know that the borough in London was subsidised 73% by the Government. Erm - who do you think the government get their money from?
  5. Phone Frank Gaffney - 01595 840496 - He has a croft in South Whiteness
  6. Correct - and some of you might recall that a few years back there was significant issue that went to court regarding the classification of the good old jaffa cake. It was zero rated at the time because it was a "cake" - but the VAT man wanted it rated since it had "luxurious" chocolate included and should be classed as a chocolate biscuit! I'm not sure what the outcome was but I think it remains zero rated at the moment - anyone know?
  7. Just drop the end of the address to look like this http://www.old-maps.co.uk and it will work fine (new index page will appear
  8. Precisely - I wonder how the Englands team will get on tonight

    PIMP

Pimp bombs on opening night Ouch! http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/blog/article/18878/danny-dyers-latest-film-pimp-bombs-at-cinema.html
  10. http://www.shetland-news.co.uk/2010/May/news/Totals%20giant%20dormitory%20goes%20on%20display.htm Yes! - a win win situation at last - a state of the art "village" to house some temporary workers AND a solution (when the workers depart) to the local housing waiting list problem. Surely the SIC should insist that the dorm will be good for at least 20 years. The "Swedish" houses in Bruce Crescent in Lerwick were supposedly only good for 20 years when they were built 50 years ago but they're still going strong and looking good. We could call it Total town..... Like Toy Town but not so close to Brae.
  11. ..........met the sheriff on the hillhead today - had a teenager on a skewer....... said he had only been lightly grilled.
  12. erm - in this other dimension did Brian take the time to scoop up the Stew doo in a tesco bag or did he leave it to be sprayed pink?
  13. A feature you say?.....This is the one for sure.....The epitome of Shetland roadsides, but alas slowly and surely dying out due to lack of indulgence, is that beautiful (and some say very tasty) Shetland Rose. You could (and should) encompass at least one into your garden. It will stand proud as a testimony to all things Shetland. - I understand that there may still be some readily available in the Voe shop (packs of 6).... so hurry along
  14. After I had waited in line for what seemed like nearly 40 seconds I eventually voted by writing an X in a small white box. Allegedly some people were using the tick method... both legitimate apparantly?
  15. Hi Fifi, All working fine for me (XP IE8). Only one issue I wold point out is that on your "Links" page you still refer to Visit Shetland and the webcams but the link takes you to Visit Scotlands site (following their upgrade), You should readdress to http://www.shetland.org to get to the local site and the webcams etc. and why not add a link to Shetlink to while your at it cheers
  16. ^ On a balance of probabalities I'll take that as a no then
  17. Koy wrote: Want an experiment for proof? Fold a piece of A4 paper up. I can get about seven folds tops and it's no where near the size of a singularity. Now imagine trying it with the whole universe... Bet you a tenner, It won't fit. ^ Hi Koy.. Guess what... in the last two weeks I have managed to fold my bed 14 times - and it's a single one too. Does that count for the tenner?
  18. "could have" - you nailed it there. Neither Northlink nor the Government function on could haves. A "lifeline" is way way different from a life threatening issue. If needs be (and the Sumburgh chopper crew demonstrated my point last weekend) then people will respond. "Could have" meaning that another medicine I needed could have been more urgent than the one that was delayed. I certainly am not happy that any medicine that my doctor has told me to take becomes unavailable because our "Lifeline Ferry" service cannot leave Aberdeen. Maybe this is something the pharmacy needs to discuss with NHS Shetland but being told that my pills are not available is not acceptable in this day and age. Just noticed that your post above was on the 1st. Way before the airspace closure fiasco. So indeed you have a point about the quacks running out of drugs. Much the same as Tesco running out of melons I imagine. Poor supply chain and not enough forethought into the demands of the consumer by the buyers. Glad you managed without, without too much angst. Such is island life. My point also still stands - if you had taken poorly then your medication would have been flown here or you would have been flown South should your condition have been life threatening.

    Guitar Festival 2010

Hope he comes home for it - could be Magic, if there's a Pilot flying of course. With this airspace ban we might have to wait until January and we will be well sick and tired waiting by that time.
  20. I disagree. This is a blatent overreaction. It's a case of "we must be seen to be doing something because we are the government". Northlink don't mind because one stretch of sea and one company of passengers from Norway is no different from any other (But the positive publicity they think they will reap means more to them than the "lifeline" service they provide to our neighbours in Orkney) Please tell me of a genuine case of want (with the Icelandic Population being a seriously neglected exception) from the fallout from this vocanic ash [no pun intended] based on the UK/US media news to date.

  22. You obviously only read the English news (be it on paper or online). If you took the time to read alternative sources (like the Icelandic news) then you will see that there is indeed a different perspective depending on your locale. You will find that TV reports are of a similar vein. addendum : again fairly obviously, of course you haven't been able to read the daily rags if you live in Shetland because the papers are cancelled yet again due to some issues with flights. CH501 on Sky will keep you well informed methinks
