  1. Most cruise ship passengers arriving in Lerwick will be more than delighted not to be inundated by street traders and hawkers trying to sell them tat and are glad that this fine place can indeed avoid the stereotypical rat race they are probably on holiday to get away from. Many a foreign tour is spoilt by the very fact that some of the â€locals†are trying to make a fast buck and so pester the tourist. The Pepsi stalls at the Pyramids in Egypt and the Time Share traders in Spain and Portugal are examples. I say let visitors find Shetland as it is – “wards†and all ïŠ
  2. You're right MJ. V sad. I may be wrong but the clip you posted isn't the original Monkees. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2hzusE4veM looks more like the real late Davy Jones
  3. Glad to hear that you're so much better off than the common man. Probably living in Lerwick and not appreciating the free hot water that you get, unlike the rest of society that live outside Lerwick and have to pay for it. Min min doos doitin. Lerook fok pay for da pleasure sam as deesel.

    Isles cars

If it's legal whilst still having a RO-RO link between the exempt islands and the Shetland Mainland surely all of the Shetland Islands would fall into the same exempt category in relation to the Mainland of the UK. Perhaps we should be lobbying to have the law extended to all our islands.... or is that a "Calamity" in the making

    Fuel Prices

Could it perhaps be that she bought her stock way before the latest price hike and therefore is still making the required mark up due to a low turnover compared to other outlets who have "newer" stocks in at the higher wholesale price. How often does she get a bulk delivery?
  15. I saw no two minutes silence on Shetlink either. So here it is for you. Now don't forget how we got to where we are. Wear that poppy with pride for the past.

  18. @ NorthernXposure , Thanks for the link ! Thanks I appreciate your useful feedback I'm always reading about shetland's low unemployment + lots of inward investment , but it seems you also has the same problems as elsewhere in the UK at the moment . Shetlandwanabee try this link (Not TOTAL the Gas Plant Operators by the way) http://www.totaljobs.com/JobSeeking/ShetlandIslands_l10056_t2.html You need to tell us your trade then we can give you a better steer. The Gas Plant will go through various stages of "construction". Currently the trades required will be primarily Civils, i.e the traditional contruction type trades, roads and cement, and digging, trucking etc then when the steelwork and pre-assembled Gas Plant units arrive the Black Trade type work commences - i.e the Welding and Pipefitting, Plating, Rigging etc. At the same time the Instrument and Electrical trades will be required for all the control stuff and the fabrication of Insulation, Fireproofing etc. Then Commissioning skills will be required before handing over to the Operating Trades and the Technicians - Including maintenance trades like Instrument Techs, HVAC etc. At the same time laborotory and Fabric Maintenance skills will be required - the "support" trades like Crane Drivers, Riggers, Caterers, Cleaners, etc etc. You name it and a major gas plant will need a particular trade at some time in it's life - CAD Operators, Librarians, Engineers, Phorographers , Rope Access Specialists, and of course the "domestic trades for the admin buildings, plus all the secretarial/Admin skills and of course Security staff, Emergency Response specialist, Health and Safety, etc etc etc. Like I started by saying - What particlar skills/Trade do you have? - Might then be able to suggest an agency or a bodyshop you can contact.
