  1. Of course, a cynic might think Tesco had decided to just wing it as the local suits probably wouldn't be paying enough attention to notice....but if they did they could then play the "customer expectations/demand for the service" and "we can't have the site in limbo due to customer inconvenience/safety, we need to know whether we can proceed or will have to reinstate ASAP" cards.

Of course, we don't have cynics in Shetland, do we.... :ponders:

'It's what the customer wants' line.....surely no. I reckon thats a management from the top down to the minion managers. Did you see the one squirming on Hugh's fish fight the other night.......That line didn't work for him.

Anyway, consent or not, it's going ahead no matter what!

  2.

Children, teenagers especially, do not necessarily want to spend their entire school life in the same small community and the same peer group.

Have you asked my children where they want to spend their school life? Would you like to?

I think Staney Dale gave quite a balanced viewpoint there.

KairaWRX, have you given you're children enough 'positive' information for them to at least want to maybe give it a go in Lerwick or have you just decided for them?

There majority of people my age, who I know that attended the hostels in town regard that years of their lives the best they have experienced. It 'broadened their horizons' is a sentance I hear the most when the closures debate is brought up. Who's to say it won't be the best thing thats happened to you're children or those around you, change is not always for the worst. This wasn't too many years ago so not a lot has changed around Shetland since then.

Be glad to hear you're opinion on that Kaira.

    Cheers

  3. Been to Montys twice now in recent weeks. Bloody brilliant!!!!

After tending to stay away from there because I often felt 'fantin' after usually paying in the high teens for a main course.........I just didn't think it was good value very pretty to look at mind you but just not enough of it.

The last two trips have been fantastic though. Still paying in the high teens for a main but plenty on the plate.......a dream!

  4. A friend of mine has a Vauxhall which is 3 year old and out of warranty. Its in need of a service so would it be best going to the local Vauxhall dealer or go elsewhere?

I have no idea and she's not 100% sure as the car was purchased new from a dealer south.

    Thanks for you're time!

  5. ^^^How do you know there is plenty room for it at 'The Upper Esplanade' ?

Be careful what you write because some folk actually believe what they read on here ;)

Just a guess, they're not that big especially if you take into consideration where they were initially situated!

  7. Frankly, if I had bairns I would be reluctant to let them go on those rides simply because the whole outfit looks so rough and tacky.

@livinglerwick, I appreciate you didn't have anything to do with the funfair :)

Ideas?. In humble honesty I'm brimming with ideas but "the establishment" doesn't want to know......

Whats 'the establishment'? Whoever they are seem to be able to put Malcolms ideas into practice.

Out of interest, what are 'some' of you're ideas?

I think they should have put the rides exactly where the market was last week, plenty of room there. Pity it's such a crap day for it not many people kicking about the pier today!

  8. Bloody hell folk lighten up, its only for a weekend and at least it something for the bairns to go to. Well done Malcolm for at least trying, any of the complainers here pulling their finger out to help or come with some good ideas? Nah didna think it.

Yeah, ootside the Thule wisna the best idea. Should have put the rides at the 'upper Esplanade' where the market was, plenty o room there!

Keep cheery folks.....its for da bairns remember.....peerie smiley faces, whit could be better? :D

  9. Anyone who can't find it is a moron.

I'm sure visitors to Lerwick will really appreciate being called morons. I still don't know where some places are in Lerwick and yep, I use either my Sat Nav or maps on my mobile phone which I suspect some visitors do also.

So Nederlander, do you know your way to every single street address in Shetland and all the other isles here?

I'm sure they don't come on here to look all the pish posted by the regulars. I only happened to stumble upon this most ludicrous of complaints (although no complaint seems to ludicrous for the folk on this forum) by an unfortunate accident.

I stand by my original claim, if anyone missed the market due to it being called the "Upper Esplanade", they are a moron.

Correct, 2 pages of incredible amount of urine being typed by the usual suspects!

  10. as almost all the subjects on the shetlink forums seem to end up with folk bitching and bickering at each other, i thought I'd start one specially :) Enjoy :P

That's not exactly original is it!?

Why couldn't you have started a thread where everyone is agreeable and nice to one another :D

They did but the terrible twosome managed to ruin that thread too!

  11. Kids have always done stupid and thoughtless things.

Bottom Line- they need a smack then made to sit down in front of the families they have affected and explain themselves. They might learn that actions have consequences.

There are no consequences now for misbehaviour, teachers and support workers are scared to even give verbal warnings for fear of reprisals (either from false allegations or stupid violent parents).

I ken what my grandpa would have said about this (he was a policeman) - If he had caught the kids he would have given them a smack round the side of the head then dragged them to their parents who would have made damn sure that they were punished.

    Totally agree!
