  1. Bolts Electrical have been closed for years now. The electrical items you see is simply old remaining stock being sold off.
  2. We had a fantastic meal at the Museum last night. The food and service was excellent. Great views, nice wine and a warm atmosphere. Thumbs up to the Museum staff
  3. Mareel clad in wood isnt a good idea! Being in a marine environment means any coat of paint wont last more than a year or two before it would start to look worn-out. The huge surface area of the building would mean annual maintenance costs running into thousands of pounds if they had to keep re-painting it. I like the look of the building as it is. It's modern and really adds a point of interest to Lerwick harbour. The whole North Ness is looking great with the new business park, mareel and museum. Can't wait for it to open so we can start enjoying what it's got to offer.
  4. Im interested too! Let us know when and where
  5. Cant go wrong with the big four as a starting point: Metallica Megadeth Anthrax Slayer
  6. Jesus what a bunch of whingers! You moan because nobody makes an effort for cruise ships, then the pipe band does something about it and they get shot down in flames for trying. We are part of Scotland and as such our national instrument is the bagpipes. Just because you dont like the bagpipes, it doesnt mean the tourists dont enjoy it! In fact it must be a complete novelty for most of them to hear pipes and drums. Give the pipe band some credit for trying to entertain the tourists - I dont see any fiddle groups out there having a tune - theres nothing stopping them!! I think the pipe band should be invited to play for all the big cruise liners. I love the pipes and many many more people do too. Hope the pipe band keeps up the good work.
  7. 1: Biffy Clyro, Think they would be an awesome band to open Mareel. Failing that reel big fish, Moby, Seasick Steve, Papa Roach, (Too many awesome bands out there just now to choose fae) 2: The Hellacopters, The Willy Clay Band, Gary Numan 3: Scaldin Bragg or Black Pepper
  8. Cant believe we're still banging on about local shops! Have you actually compared the prices of toys? Becasue I have and I have found both Harrys and Toll Clock Toys to be cheaper than Tescos for toys. Tescos does have a couple of good toy offers to suck you in, but everything else is the same price or dearer. I find the selection of toys in both TCT and Harrys is far better, the staff more friendly and my kids enjoy going into an actual toy shop not just the toy aisle of a supermarket where everything is on shelves too high for them to reach or even see! Not only that, Toll Clock Toys offer a Christmas club to help parents spread the cost of Christmas - dont think Tescos does this. I also got TCT to order some toys in for me from their catalogue and it came really quickly. Cant fault the service at all! Well done TCT. Agreed. I think you'll find Bolts has gold plated HDMI's starting at £6.99! Far superior to the £2 ones at Tescos. If I was buying a new TV theres no way I would stick £2 HDMI cables on it, unless I was buying that cheap rubbish TVs from Tesco then I dont think it would matter if you stuck a £2 HDMI on it.
  9. I've nearly been clipped a few times on my bike usually by some twit who refuses to slow down. I would love to see a cycle lane, especially on the main roads.
  10. Finally a decent debate on Shetlink! The sequel of B&T is a great film, far better than Waynestock. And theres talk of Bill and Ted 3: http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/608920/confirmed_bill_ted_3_really_is_on_the_way_new_details_revealed.html EXCELLENT!
  11. Yes, they've had their view of the sea obscured but I think they're lucky to have a cinema right on theie doorsteps! Lets not forget what the area looked like oin the 80s and 90s, it had decrepit old fish factories and a construction yard. Once the building nears completion it will look nothing like a prison. I cant wait for it to open!
  12. The waiting time at the bar was a joke! Everyone was just pushing in with no proper queue. Once you got your drink you had to fight your way back through the crowd trying not to spill it. If they just had a couple of staff constantly pulling pints and some roped off queuing it would have saved a lot of time and effort. The tournament itself was excellent and the atmosphere was great, its just a pity we had to spend some much time being buslted around in the bar trying to get a drink!
  13. count me in when your ready
  14. Im interested too. Been flying power kites for years and also into windsurfing. PM me when you have definite dates and I'll be there.
  15. I know the owners and they are doing the best they can. Im sure they would like to hear any complaints by e-mail, letter or phone call instead of having to read them on Shetlink (where the local shop owners are being critisised enough already). If more people started getting behind and started supporting local business instead of running to Tesco and the Internet then maybe they could afford to upgrade their facilities.
