Hangover Square by Patrick Hamilton. Set in the 1930s in London, its centres round a lonely tragic, good-hearted guy, his alcoholism and hopeless obsession with a woman, whom, in his 'dead moods' - blackout or schizophrenic periods - he decides he must kill. Dark, depressing, but brilliantly written and full of insight into dark, seedy, tragic parts of life. -
I switched on the computer this morning, and it booted up fine, no opening/closing of the cd tray, back to normal it would seem. Have salvaged my data, and scanned for viruses - nothing. Very bizarre!

Thanks for all the advice, I'll give it all a go and see what can be salvaged.

Has anyone come across this problem before? My cd drawer all of a sudden started opening and closing all of its own accord today and continued to do so, so I shut down the pc and re-booted, the tray started opening and closing again, but the computer wouldn't re-boot! Any ideas what could cause this?

I've had a few opportunities to see Kid Koala but missed him every time so hope to catch him for this gig. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a great album I never tire of listening to. I heard that he spent something like 4 years creating the album and practicing the scratching, samples and turntable trickery, and then recorded the entire album in one take - but don't know if that's true or not. He's a magician on the turntables, should be a good night
