  1. Back in the day if you would have bought a new telly from a one of the now defunct local electrical outlets and it had packed up even 1 month after buying it then they would have taken it in for repair , with no replacement offered , or refund. And "If" they managed to fix it you may have got it back after a month or two....if you were lucky !!! Take the money and run.
  2. Led to believe wages are being paid out of reserves..........................................
  3. Bridges, windmills, tunnels, lack of Chief exec, various scandals, numerous education reviews, AHS U turn - to name a few of the distractions they've poured cash into in the last 10 years. Dunna forget the beautiful new bressay bridge........................consultations about other "fixed" links to the outer Isles , when they couldnt even get the first one either off the ground or indeed , below it !!.............................amongst many other things no doubt.
  4. Then by that logic how is it that Orkney can manage with a staffing level of less than half what we have ? Their population is roughly speaking very similar. Its high time that some of these highest paid jobs went , we cant afford them. Also the expense accounts should be abolished , and the 60+ council credit cards rumored to be in circulation should get the scissor treatment also. Everybody else has to budget in these hard times but you wont get much sympathy from the public when you still see all the high paid jobs , still staffed , still costing a fortune when everyone else is expected just to accept it as "thats the way it is".
  5. No , they shouldnt bale it out , if its the rip roaring success they claim it is then the shetland arts should borrow the money commercially to pay for it. They have no none to blame but themselves , it was always going to be way too extravagant and like all things SIC based way OTT. It would be ridiculous in the extreme to bale it out when schools are going to be shut / ferry services reduced etc etc.
  6. Well why then isnt the council making cuts to the highest earning "Officials" Or "Officers" (as they like to be called) ?? Why isnt the legion of yellow vans / trucks being reduced ?? Why provide vehicles home to staff when most of us have to run a vehicle to work ? HUGE , MASSIVE savings COULD be made within the council WITHOUT the need to close schools. How does Orkney manage with almost the same population and half the staff ?? And , as mentioned elsewhere , why hasnt tingwall , mossbank and cunningsburgh been considered for these proposals ???? Robert Henderson said it was unacceptable for the Lerwick bairns to be schooled outwith Lerwick ? Oh Really ? Now why is that then ? Would love to know the answer to that one , and how he arrives at such a patronising claim ! Its high time that these 20 or so clowns at the town hall follow what the electorate wish , after all it was us who put them there , to do a job , not sit smugly with their snouts in the trough with the "we're all right Jack " notion.
  7. Ah stoness , its not ati town bile as you claim , its just pointing out the real truth , as muted eleswhere on here that what lerwick wants it gets !! Hundreds of thousands could be saved by cutting out all the many yellow vans running around , all the expense accounts of already overpaid layabouts that cant provide a believeable set of figures for any of this , all the sic credit cards spread amongst these "officials" We all know this is where the cuts should be made , and could be made !! All Im saying is the town shouldnt be excluded in this latest round of manure to spring from the sic. Like it or lump it.
  8. Hell mend them then ! I fail to see why the Lerwick schools should be beyond consideration for closure in the effort to save money. And I cant see that the short bus journey to say scalloway would cost anywhwere near the quantity of money that all the buses / transport will cost in taking all these bairns to lerwick. MUCH more money could be saved elsewhere in the council where waste is in great abundance. everyone is entitled to their opinion...and if you dont like it , well thats tough.
  9. Just about every school in shetland , be it primary or secondary is being affected by these ridiculous proposals........all bar 3.....Where in gods name do the lerwick schools fit into all this ? How come no mention is being made about the two primary schools in lerwick , or the ahs ? Why dont they close both the primary schools in lerwick and bus these bairns out to Scalloway...they seem to have created space there !!! And surely the lerwick bairns could survive the arduous 15 min bus ride to scalloway. I dont see why the hell each and every country school is under threat because of cuts etc , but oh no not the precious lerwick schools , they seemingly are beyond reproach , I say there should be a full enquiry into why the above cant happen to save money , or is it the old adage that lerwick is "where" its at................Its bloody pathetic ! High time that some of the layabouts that come up with all these wacky schemes included the precious town into their calculations , and remember that the bloody equator doesnt run through the clickimin loch.
  10. Well with the recent screw ups with this proposal , ie , touting this nutty idea without having ALL the relevent information to hand is just a perfect example of the relative stupidity that reigns supreme in the sic ! And the big wigs in the sic say they have to pay the big salaries to attract the "right" people............what a bl**dy laugh !!! Well we all know what an "expert" is.....an ex = a has been , and a spurt is a drip under pressure. Elsewhere on here you will find the massive balls up with how much would be saved when they closed another school , they reckoned 200,000 and to end up with it was as little as £10.000 , now with that kind of error , who is going to trust what stoness they come up with next ?
  11. Am totally fed up with the continual school closure threats to country schools , why arent the lerwick schools under threat ? Why cant lerwick bairns be bused outwith lerwick , I mean its all very well for bairns as far away as sandness to be bused into lerwick ? Whats so special about lerwicks survival ? the ahs is totally unfit for purpose , the sic are years away from a new schhol , and given their history of screw ups , probably never ! Kids around lerwick that have to walk to school do so on pavements with street lighting , Whats going to happen to children in the country that stay maybe a mile or two from main bus routes , that have prevoisly been picked up by bus to be taken to their local school ? No local school-no bus ? So these children have to either walk along dark single track roads in the winter time there and back , unless their parents can either get time of work or organise some other means of transport , which could be considerably difficult ? And for what ? So that some high paid office staff in lerwick can sustain their vastly overpaid jobs and maintain their leather chair with the shape of their arses ! Shetland islands council is FAR to top heavy with admin staff , look at Orkney by comparison , Its high time we as a community said "No more" , Leave our elderly and children be and untill WE see THEM cutting back on this vast payrol in the SIC , lead by example. 14 million wasted in lerwick on a white elphant that WILL be a constant drain on resources........ millions upon millions wasted on a bridge / tunnel that will never be , hundreds of thousands wasted on consultants about fixed links to outer isles , I could go on and on.....well done sic , you must be so proud !!!
  12. Maybe , just maybe if the people of shetland were going to benefit from cheaper electricity as a result then a smaller scale windfarm would have been more acceptable. But having in the past been assured that when oil came to the isles that we would have the cheapest fuel in europe because of it , and of course that never happened and we ended up with the most expensive fuel , maybe people are a bit more sceptical about this , and the probability that not only having this rammed down our throats , we will all have far higher electric bills as a result. What I would really like to know is this , Say you have a house / built a house thats going to be close to one of these windmills , and you have no control over where they are being sited , what happens to the value of your , say £200,000 house that maybe now has a value of £150,000 or less , who is going to make up the diffrence in that value that you have lost through no fault of your own , VE ? , Scotttish gov ? I see compensation claims looming..................
  13. Bring back the Black and White minsteral show !!!!
  14. Went into staneyhill shop today , spent £15.00 + change , guy charged me 60p for using my debit card....what a rip off !!! When I challenged him about it he just shrugged and mumbled something. I know some shops do charge for £10.00 or under , but that is ridiculous. Wont be goin there again !!
  15. LOL ! Yeah that would put the wind up the town hall...."What do you mean , Close LERWICK schools ???? and b.b.bus them where ??? Unheard of , madness ,full consultation needed , no expense spared. LOL Its right enough though , millions have been spent on country schools a few years ago , what happens to these buildings now ? They all have to be maintained , or sold. But who would buy them , and for how much ? I dont believe this new lerwick school will ever get off the ground if its left up to the sic and until it does hundreds of bairns will be made to struggle on in a delapidated semi derilict monstrosity and recieve a poorer eduction that they have had at their own schools........while the insigators of this hellery , the ones with big leather chairs the shape of their arses , sit back on the same grossly inflated salaries and future pensions and dont give a toss..................well done sic , what a legacy you will leave our future generations.
  16. paulb:- As far as I am aware distant islands allowance is funded from central government, so if the council didn't pay it, they wouldn't get the funding from the government, therefore there would be no actually saving to the sic. Im not sure if it comes from central government or not , BUT why should only employees of the sic get this perk , we all live on this Island. And Yes good point paulb , if its good enough for Yell it should be good enough for lerwick also.....but no , its would seem not. Fur coat and nae knickers springs tae mind.
  17. A few millions could be saved by doing away wi the Island allowance , we all live on a fecking Island so why is the sic employees the only ones to get it ? Basicly sic employees get their council tax free. There could be much savings gained by abolishing the ridiculous situation in social care where if someone is off sick they get full pay , a relief is then called on do do a shift , agree's to do it and then also calls in sick , they get full pay also , so by the time the shift is covered you could have 3 or 4 wages being paid out in full.....ridiculous situation. most people get nothing for the first 3 days then just get SSP , why does the sic have to be any diffrent ? Is there no one with even a modicum of wit that cant see things like that and do something about it instead of the cuts they are trying to make ? Also , much savings could be made in cutting down on the number of sic employees who have yellow / white vans home every night , most without having a valid reason for doing so , they have free transport to and from work , no fuel costs , insurance etc , unlike the rest of us. I know it wont make the savings they say they require , but as Asda would say , every little helps.
