  1. Tried to listen but unfortunately don't understand the locals who are telling the interesting stories
  2. Google does not give out this information. However, there seems to be a rough 5 years interval (in Shetland the first version went online in 2011 and was updated in 2015. I have observed pictures in Switzerland from 2013 being updated this year.
  3. It seems like the google car has been on Shetland again in 2015 and, as a result, I am not on Street View anymore Should have made a screen shot.
  4. I've been to the Faroes this Summer and these undersea tunnels are quite impressive. There's a new one in the pipeline (huh) between Streymoy and Sandoy. They have no oil, btw. Just teasing.
  5. Long as they can not vote on facebook/twitter or the like, they won't bother anyway - this is no sprootle but experience as in Switzerland we have quite a lot of votations (from 18yo) and the young ones are really lazy voters.
  6. Thanks Capeesh. It's nice that it inspires you to re-discover some of the nice places around you and you really should take the time to go to Fair Isle. I know how it is though. I live in Switzerland but haven't been to half of all nice mountain stations as I prefer hopping around remote islands in the north sea instead
  7. Here are the reports of our walks on walkhighlands, with lots of pictures: Hermaness: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54777&p=289126#p289126 Muckle Roe: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54757&p=289042#p289042 Mousa: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54756&p=289033#p289033 Sumburgh Head: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54722&p=288900#p288900 Noss: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54730&p=288921#p288921 Fair Isle: http://www.
  8. I just came back from 9 fantastic days in Shetland - on 7 out of 9 days, the weather was fine to brilliant. I was so glad to be up there because in Switzerland they had a heatwave with temps never below 30° We were based on Muckle Roe and here's what we did: - Sumburgh Head - Fair Isle, - Mousa (twice, once during the day and once at night for the storm petrels) - Noss - Hermaness - Esha Ness - Hams of Muckle Roe Great stuff. The only disappointment was that we did not make it to Foula, as the two days we tried to go were the two with foul weather Well, a reason to come back . The se
  9. Thanks Ghost - I've half thought of Fethaland myself. Should be interesting.
  10. Folks, I am hijacking my own thread As stated up thread, I will be coming to Shetland this Summer with the Missus. We will be staying on Muckle Roe from 14 to 24 July and are planning to do mostly trekking (weather permitting). As an island hopper / nutter, I have booked flights to Fair Isle, Foula, Papa and Skerries and Mousa and Noss are also on the To Do List. On my first visit to Shetland in 2010, I have visited Unst (Hermaness), Esha Ness, Clickimin Broch, St. Ninian's, Scalloway Castle as well as the Jarlshof. If anyone has suggestions on what we should not miss, please feel free
  11. You reap what you sow....... Point taken - however as a foreigner I do not have much to contribute to most topics... This might change as I will be spending almost two weeks in Shetland this Summer
  12. Folks, I've been a lurker for most times but it seems to me that these forums are really dying a slow death. I mean there are 2 or 3 posts a day now, when it used to be a lively community. Has everybody moved somewhere else or what's happening? Just asking John D'oh
  13. Well I had the chance to view the series at least. It's mediocre crime fare in a above average setting (shetland). Same as the novels. Just makes me want to go back to Shetland. And I will.
  14. I might be picky but shouldn't the thread title read "which atrocities to fight against" ?
  15. Magnificent pictures stilldellin! Thanks
