  1. Yes, John Lewis do deliver up here and worth buying as the prices are so much better than up here! However, be aware that not all manufacturers have service agents up here. We have a Hotpoint fridge freezer bought from John Lewis but they could not service it if it went wrong, in or out of guarantee and since there is not a Hotpoint agent in Shetland, that means you are taking a slight gamble with some manufacturers.
  2. Anyone know if there is anyone in shetland who buys or collects scrap metal?
  3. Has anyone any experience of taking a puppy on a Loganair flight? I am trying to arrange collecting a 12 week old puppy from Inverness in September and they tell me the hold is the only option which concerns wme with a dog so young. Anyones experiences would help please!!
  4. Finally someone talking sense on a thread which in itself is a total farce and an insult to most adults intelligence.
  5. Does anyone know of a Bodyshop products rep in Shetland, or any other beauty products rep/distributor for that matter?
  6. The Glass centre do it, but actual glass is less than half the price of perspex so far better value (unless you specifically need perspex of course)
  7. Does anyone know of anyone who can remove a ground bees nest? I tried SIC but apparently they do everything else but don't do bees. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!
  8. there is a lot online, just google 'shetlander spitfire'
  9. No, I would not, but then I would not stand for election either if I could not put in the time and effort needed, especially if I was from a party that needs to be 'out there' offering themselves as a really credible alternative. Don't get me wrong, I am sure Robert is a nice enough guy, I have never met him but I have no reason to think otherwise and my views are not directed at him personally, but in the guise of UKIP candidate. My view is based purely on the fact that he is standing as a candidate, but seemingly is not prepared to give 100% to getting himself elected and so in my view may not be prepared to give 100% for the good of the electors. Just my opinion, and we are all entitled to them.
  10. Except our UKIP candidate cannot be arsed to even attend debates in Shetland - what message does that send? He's a working fisherman and I've read his explanations as to why he couldn't attend. Would you be financially able to stop work at one of your busiest times of the year to attend a debate in Orkney? If he wants to go fishing thats fine. If he wants to be taken seriously as a candidate, then he should try making an effort. If he cannot make an effort now, will he be out fishing when he is needed in parliament?

  12. Does anyone know of anybody who can look at and repair a Hotpoint fridge freezer? I have tried George Robertsons and Robertson & Peterson to no avail.
  13. Does anyone have any idea where I could buy a flagpole?
  14. Common sense would have said that workers were unlikely to be at work with 90mph winds this morning and 70mph+ for the rest of the day. I am surprised that anyone got to work, especialy with no ferries running.
  15. Don't get me wrong - for all I know Mr Cree-Hay may have a wonderful broadband connection, and I have no problem with that. However, I DO have a problem with the fact that the article in question blatently promotes BT coverage in remote areas as being wonderful, something that is quite clearly - as anyone in Yell or Unst will tell you - untrue. I therefore have a problem with such promotion to be allowed that is mis-representation of the quality of service given by BT in Shetland. http://cree-hay.co.uk/cv-and-bio.html
  16. I have just read the article mentioned in the previous post - what absolute crap. So 'Bob' lives in a remote part of Shetland 9 miles up a single track road does he? Funny how he has such amazing BT coverage then for somewhere so apparently remote. 'Bob' wants to take responsibility for this story and remove it, as it simply promotes/pretends that all Shetland, however far away, has a wonderful broadband service which could not be further from the truth. I emailed Brendon Dick, the BT man from the SCDI and he was seemingly far too busy to reply to me, simply getting a secretary to email me telling me that BT were checking my line before responding further - an act that was made even more amazing in that I did not state my home address or telephone number in the initial email.
  17. I know that I cannot use a Sky+ box to record Freesat programs as I have never had a Sky contract, but is anyone using a Freesat recorder and if so, can they recommend it? I have been looking for ages but all the cheaper ones I find seem to have mixed reviews on places like Amazon, especially concerning noisy fans and ease of use. Any advice or personal experience would be useful.
  18. It seems he thinks that by changing to yet another pseudonym that no-one will know who he is. However, as someone who does not normally post on forums such as this, I have been driven to do so. On any forum, there is always the usual amount of trash by over opinionated people, and Shetlink is no exception. However, I can confidently say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the greatest example of total sprootle I have ever read. The referendum was a result to stay as United Kingdom. If you were as clever as you seem to think you are, you would try working together as a whole, and using the closeness of the vote to ensure that Scotland gets the powers and ability to help shape its future. perhaps though, reading your previous drivel, you should get everyone in Scotland to post on their house windows how they voted. That way you could campaign that fire crews only put out fires of people who voted yes, norses and doctors only treat those who voted yes, and the armed forces from Scotland can ask their enemies in Afghan or wherever they are how they WOULD have voted to decide whether to shoot them or not. Also, if you are so right and so clever, why not post under your real name? Oh, someone who knows you has already posted above to say who you are - they obviously think you talk trash too. In reality, the REAL bottom line is that millions and millions of pounds were spent on the referendum, on all aspects from planning in government right down to producing little badges and stickers. If that money had instead been used properly, it could have saved rural schools that are due for closure, stopped the constant reduction of our police force and helped towards some of the urban problems we have such as kids sleeping rough in the streets. Instead, we are now at a situation where the relationship between Scotland and the rest of the UK has been damaged, and the relationship between Scotland and its residents has been damaged and until pathetic fools like you change your childing attitude, those relationships will not be mended and no-one will be able to move on working for the good of the people as a whole.
  19. None of you have anything to moan about compared to our speed, and we still have to pay the full rate!! http://www.speedtest.net/result/3721124572.png
  20. No you won't. You have had enough reasons in the past and not done so, so this is just an empty threat.
  21. DFS just quoted me £260 to deliver a sofa to Unst from their Aberdeen shop!! Can anyone tell me of any furniture companies who deliver at a reasonable charge?
  22. Does anyone know of anyone in Shetland who can fit stair carpets?
  23. Has anyone got any idea where I can buy a flagpole in Shetland, or even better a pole for swooper flags?
