  1. i will like it, hopefully...., when they start showing things that a cinema is ment too...films! thats what we are all waiting for! not screen play and things being moved about all over the shop stick on a load of films that are showing in the cinema in aberdeen and let the public decide im all for them showing other things but the bread and butter of the cinema is ment to be the regular films so come on lets see it!
  2. Skandi Carla a previous workplace of mine, still know lots of the crew aboard nice ship to work on. she brightens up scalloway harbour a bit
  3. iam pretty sure if there was a British Royal Navy vessel in here every other week folk would be saying 'look they do no work waste of taxpayers money etc etc etc' at least if they aint calling at uk ports they are making there presence felt elsewhere in the world hopefully detering pirates (if thats possible)
  4. dont fall foul of the ''you ned special chemicals to clean decra'' yes its not advised to presssure was decra roofing, but the checmicals a certain lerwick store is selling at 60 quid for 10ltrs, you can actually buy the same chemical from any cleaning suppiler at a fraction of the cost! i dont have the name to hand right now mind you.
  5. rumour mill has it that there are some failed welds on the pipe which has already been layed, hard to belive as i thought it was all tested before it left the vessel. as i said rumour mill. welcome to the offshore world lots of hanging about waiting for someone to say yay or nay!
  6. ahhh thats prob the reason why then, i didnt know that.
  7. change that to Polarcus samur in breiwick bay!
  8. its morrison construction who are doing all the building work, and petrofac who are in overall control up there.
  9. yeah Polarcus Amani sitting in brewick bay now, had her chase boat alongside yesterday while at anchor in the harbour. x-bow design is ideal for vessels like the the polarcus ones as all siesmic vessels, the x-bow reduces motion in bad weather and allows for higher or maintaining vessels speed. the nature of siesmic work means lots of transit time between jobs (in one year i went from gulf of mexico, norweigen sea, north sea, turkey) so x-bow will reduce fuel consumption and allow for higher transit speed. also give the forward part of the ship good protection. not sure about the northboats having this design would need some imagination getting bow doors to work, but would be interesting to see if its cost effective
  10. if you have something that might be worth something to other folk take it to Cope - its on the way to the dump anyhow, if they dont want it, cant sell it then they can skip it iam sure. plus you would be supporting a good local asset its totally crazy that you can no longer leave stuff aside
  11. i dont recal a day trip to orkeny, the boat arrived at stromness at 8pm and sailed at 10pm (if memory serves correct) id far rather be able to work my friday, jump on the boat go to orkney and have the whole of next day to do with as i please rather than 2 hrs in stromness which only really allowed for a chippy! anyway in this day and age of security it would never be possible anymore. hope the crew and shore staff are all able to transfer over on the same rates or better that they have now. as for forigen crew, welcome to the shipping industry as a whole anyone working as ships crew is always at risk of being replaced by a cheaper alternative, sad but true
  12. i think lots of folk are forgetting the P&O days! old smelly ships, sailing on a friday that left at midday! walking down the peir and up a steep gangway. now while i was younger back then, i would imagine folk be pretty upset about going back to midday sailing to orkney. northlink came in and built on what p&o had evolved into a good service, northlink have made it better (not saying i always aggree with there desicions not to sail! i still belive a lifeline service should go regardless of public safety and it be up to the person themselves, we are all able to make desisons based on the weather forecast!) nice terminals, covered walkways, nice ships on the whole, good customer service! i really hope serco dont change the rules regarding refunds and late bookings = very expensive! its nice to have a short notice option as the plane def is not one!
  13. well im a ship with 2 of the things sitting on the deck so kinda lol
  14. wisna many cars in wadbister today
  15. doesnt surprise me in the slightest! yet you must be wearing safety specs or get NRB'd outta sight outta mind!! i love the whole safety thing!
  16. yep when you see the condition of some of the installations out there below the waterline (and above in some cases) is a wonder they dont get more issues! seen the thickness prob on the ROV go straight through the rig legs on more than one occasion
  17. not good, but least theyve got all the guys off asap and we didnt have another piper alpha on our hands! gas leaks are fairly common, esp Hydrogen Sulphide when we were working close in to drilling platforms or under them we have wear personal h2s monitors as small amounts can kill (once you smell the rotten eggs its too late!) part of risk of working out there be interesting to see how they solve this one though with a 2 mile exclusion zone
  18. Actually screwfix charge £5.00 delivery if under £50.00 though i suspect this dosent cover anything as some of the stuff then send me must cost an arm and a leg to post if it were a personal thing being posted
  19. yep ill aggree with fusion on that. although i thought you could object if it impacts on your business?? isnt that what the town centre ass did with tesco? and hodge? i just found it strange not one objection to such a large building and business.
  20. I see this has been approved, whilst im neither here nor there regarding is it a good idea or not, iam surprised to read that certain hotels are worried about the long term effects - surely if they were worried they should have at least put in an objection? must admit iam surprised that there were no objections, i would have thought this was direct competition for not only hotels but everyone whos housing total workers? eventually (10+yrs) steady workers will live in shetland and there will be no need for 3 hotels in brae plus numorous houses rented to oil workers. i will bet a good dollar that the total one will be there for the life of the gas plant! like i said its neither here nor there for me, plus points are good lots of jobs etc i just found it strange that no one ojected
  21. montfield is also used as a palative care unit, and is currently full 17 beds with a mix from eldery, palative, and folk recovering hopefully going home again. its well used and is nearly always full however this is only the ground floor, and guess they should sort the 2nd floor out too. there is the dentists, theres also a nurses home (been for many many years) and various offices around that. thing the OP should be more precise in what hes asking, infact if you drive round there you can see how its used.
  22. no idea how many its ex nhs and not been done up so to speak like downstairs was so mabye this is there plan, least i hope it is otherwise who know what there planning!! ahh ok my knowledge of viewfourth is from lads working for council plumbing/sparkies other than that i know nothing more
  23. ground floor in montfield is operating and very well mostly at nearly full capacity, but upstairs recently vacated by the NHS is lying empty, wouldnt it make sense for the council to open this and close viewfourth therefore only having one set of building maintance costs, one handyman, one laundry etc etc plus they can sell of viewfourth which i belive isnt in best condition now. only trouble would be seperating the differnt patients i.e mental health and just regular old folks as i belive they have very differnt needs.
  24. south meals on wheels are provided by volenteers i know as my granny 70 odd volenteers to deliver them. not sure about the cooking etc tho.
  25. does the SIC not have a housing agenda on bressay? or mabye someone that owns alot of land there has some influence within the council...... then again mabye im just cynical
