  1. yeh you can do your trailer test in shetland
  2. timber needs painting every couple of years, you just have o look at the "sail" on the museum to see how weathered it is and painting a building the size of mareel would cost a lot of money
  3. yeh he broon knauf stuff is very good to work with is doesnt itch and it also expands far better when taken out of the packaging compared to the normal yellow glass fibre stuff which mean you get a far better coverage http://www.knaufinsulation.co.uk/sustainability/ecose%C2%AE_technology.aspx
  4. if you are a private individual you can dump it in a skip if you wanted to but if you got a contract in to do the work then they would have to follow all the legislation double bagging, masks and suits, properly dumping it etc
  5. i would tell them to come and finish the job or you are going to report them to trading standards and contact the local press, do also remind them that shetland is a small place and word will soon get round tat they are doing shody work

  11. its a relatively easy job to remove a chimney and make good a roof, dependant on the size it can be done in a day with two men, im sure most builders would be able to give you a quote, what kind of slates/ tiles do you have?

  15. i bought a car from arnold clark in glasgow and they delivered it to aberdeen for me to pick up think it was about £100 so from london would be considerably more
  16. off the top of my head i can think of several cars that offer better mpg than your list. vw polo bluemotion 80.7mpg combined http://www.testdriven.co.uk/vw-polo-bluemotion-available-now-with-80-7-mpg-91-gkm-co2/ seat ibiza ecomotive 76.3mpg combined http://www.autotrader.co.uk/articles/2009/03/cars/seat/ibiza/seat-ibiza-ecomotive-car-review vw golf bluemotion 74.3mpg combined http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Drives/Search-Results/First-drives/VW-Golf-Bluemotion-16-TDI-2010-CAR-review-/ also euro n cap ratings for the seat and the c1 http://www.euroncap.com/tests/seat_ibiza_2008/324.aspx http://www.euroncap.com/tests/citroen_c1_2005/218.aspx
  17. My indication of 999.9 mpg proves what? That if you're travelling down a steep hill and not needing to accelerate, your car is merely ticking over and so using very little fuel?no if you are travelling down a hill in gear and not touching the accelerator if you have a modern car then you wil use absolutely no fuel at all hence why your mpg figure maxes out, on my leon the gauge just goes blank
  18. "making good use of the things we find" soonds lik most shetlanders
  19. yeh if you want to get arrested under the terrorism act
  20. @kavi ugl i dont completely agree with that statement, the vast majority of houses built in shetland recently have been timber clad and many have been painted in bright colours (hjaltland housing association) but i do concede that most are of a fairly traditional design but they are by no means drab grey boxes. as for the erlund houses they are lovely looking houses but they are not to everyones taste
  21. please explain how scandinavian houses are light years ahead of whats being built in shetland???
  22. ^^^ i agree the scalloway bc is good compared to the pubs in lerwick
  23. well i have just replaced four windows in our house with b&m windows so i know full well how much they cost
  24. a locally made hardwood door is definately the way to go and you dont have to worry about killing the rainforest as they are made from utile not mahogany
  25. I think you will find that there was no other option due to the drift that was about 18inch deep and quarter of a mile long, would love to see you dig through that one with a shovel. Police advice was to go out at midnight in the horrendous conditions and dig the car out which i think is absolutely disgracefull. The message this morning was not to travel until the gritters had cleared the road at 9am, when i travelled to work at just before 8 the main roads were clear and the car had been moved as we had an arrangement with the gritter men first thing this morning to have the car dug out and left across the road from the graveyard
