Sounds like the book How to Avoid Huge Ships should be stuck in a few Christmas stockings this year.

I bake quite frequently. No time to watch much telly though.

Blueprint for Education Update - Closures Again - Aith
khitajrah replied to The Cheesemaker's topic in Shetland News
If I felt that my children's education would benefit from being sent to Lerwick I would be happy for them to go. I don't feel that they will benefit, educationally, from the closure of Aith. Quite the opposite, in fact. -
What are you currently reading?

During the day: Finishing up the final textbook for my BSc (Hons). The end is nigh! Yay! Before bed: A Game of Thrones, Volume 1 in A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. Pure escapism. It's one of the best fantasy books/series I've read in a very long time. -
It's not a big job - you could always try it yourself first and save a few pennies. Replacing a washer in a tap

anyone recommend a good, kind DR in Lerwick
khitajrah replied to lutrawest's topic in Anything & Everything Else
I am in full agreement. I'm incredibly grateful to have quick access to such wonderful doctors. -
The reason given to me by one of the local opticians was that the plastic material used in the frames only has a 'shelf-life' of approximately two years. I've been using the same frames now for 6 years and when I took them in for adjusting the plastic snapped because of its age. I too need new glasses but there always seems to be something more important to spend that £85 on (the cost of a basic set of specs). I am of two minds, I feel very loyal towards my opticians but I am very tempted by Specsavers prices.

Shetland is the happiest place in the UK!
khitajrah replied to MuckleJoannie's topic in Shetland News
You can read the original paper here. On page 27 there is a link to the RFT reference geography tables. There it says that the sample size for Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles was around 650, but it also says, "* Eilean Siar, Orkney and Shetland Islands combined as individual sample sizes too small for reliable estimates." Source: April 2011 to March 2012, Annual Population Survey Subjective Well-being Experimental dataset, ONS C'mon, fess up, has anyone actually filled out this survey? I'm curious to know what the actual sample size for Shetland is. Note: I'm a very happy, content with my lot in life person. -

I, for one, am looking forward to taking the children into town to see the torch and to participate in the celebrations. I plan on having a jolly good time!

I think the organisers and instructors deserve a big round of applause. Thank you for such a fabulous event. I have one very happy son who said it was the BEST. WEEKEND. EVER! We made a 'holiday' of it and camped at the Clickimin for the weekend. Saved driving back and forth from the westside. Perfect weather for it too! Thank you, thank you and I do hope you come back and do it again!

^ New laptop. Hadn't tried to install it until the other day and it won't install. Nothing. Nada. I tried downloading the episodes I wanted for Windows Media Player, which was successful, but then it couldn't connect to a server for the D?? whatever it is it needs to play properly.

Ah, well now I feel a bit silly for muttering obscenities at my laptop late last night when the iPlayer wasn't working. I've missed the last 6 episodes of Silent Witness and now they're gone.

I've noticed ours has tasted quite chemical-like recently. I pointed it out to the OH the other day who hasn't noticed. I've gone back to buying bottled water for the gym instead of using tap water. (Aith)

Ouch! Welcome back I hope you mend swiftly.

Re: reasonably priced accomodation - it's only £8-80 per night for a small tent at the Clickimin campground. It's going to be a bit of a spree as the Relay for Life event is on that weekend too. Can't wait!!

My 12 year old is really looking forward to it too.
