  1. Hello, Would really appreciate some advice for which car seat fits a kia picanto (bought 4 years ago) for a growing infant (nearly 19lbs). Any advice on a good, safe buy and where to buy from - have searched online and very little info! Thank you in advance for all help.
  2. Did you actually receive the letter they are referencing here, and if so, what exactly did it say? I think its the place you're going to be most likely to find answers to what is going on. Whatever it is, they owe you an explanation one way or the other, as what they're saying to you that you're quoting here isn't normal procedure, nor does it appear to be happening across the board to others. Had I received what you've received I'd would be all over SSE's case accusing their computer of throwing a wobbly, or, picking the brains of anyone else in the house to check to see if any of them had responded to any sort of junk mail/cold caller/cold telesales "survey", "free trial" or similar, that could have led to name/address details being "tricked" in to being included in something that wasn't made at all clear at the time. Yes, unfortunately I did receive the letter and it is from the Hydro. I have quoted the key statements from the letter. There is no additional information/explanation. Has anyone else received a similar letter? Will contact Hydro but imagine it will exhausting and be to no avail. I want to switch supplier but still am no clearer as to who to switch to and if a switch will incur further costs eg: installing a new meter. If anyone can help with this I'd be grateful. Cheers
  3. Here's another quote from the letter... "We do recognise that, as you don't use much energy in your property, the introduction of this standing charge has resulted in a significant increase in your bill." Lovely eh?!
  4. No. Not a Hjatland property. Most concerned that the cheaper THTC rate will now be gone and not sure what to do/where to switch to and if I will have to pay to have new meter installed if I switch.
  5. Thanks folks. Quoting part of the the totally opaque letter below! "We recently wrote to explain that your tariff would change to include a standing charge. This means that it will no longer have two block unit rates, and instead will have a single unit rate and a new annual standing charge."
  6. Hello, We have a small baby and winters can be harsh and I'm panicked. Need to switch suppliers but not sure where to begin. We've been with SSE/Scottish Hydro for years. We've been on the Total Heating Total Control (THTC) tariff and have been vigilant at successfully keeping our bills down but have now received a letter from the SSE/Hydro robbers that they are taking away our THTC tariff and also introducing a standing charge and that we should be aware that our bills will now be significantly higher than before!!!! Any advise on what is available/best in terms of suppliers for Shetland and needs? As always many thanks in advance for all your help. http://static.moneysavingexpert.com/images/forum_smilies/smile.gif
  7. Hello there, Need a realiable and affordable man with a van to pick up a piano from the south mainland and bring it to the westside. Can anyone suggest a good person? Cheers!
  8. Hi folks, Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced Shetland hairdresser who understands and works well with long hair? I'm fed up of hairdressers who balk at long hair and lack imagination and can only suggest cutting it shorter! Many thanks in advance for all help. Cheers! :0)
  9. Thanks mucklejoanie for the link. Yes I believe there is a travel discount available but nothing towards accommodation. I think dads/partners/birth partners need to be there to support the Mum and welcome baby. Also what happens if there are complications and you end up staying 2 weeks or so? It can be very expensive and worrying. It would be good if NHS Shetland could have a think about this.
  10. Thanks for taking the time to respond Russabell - I completely agree. The policy around birth partners/escort for birth in Aberdeen absolutely needs to be looked at. I'm really worried about the cost in case we have to stay longer due to complications. You can certainly do without this worry when all you should be doing is trying to relax and be as well as you can for the birth!
  11. Hello folks, Having a baby soon and have been told that I need to go to Aberdeen Maternity for the birth. I've been informed by GBH that I don't need an escort which means my partner's travel and accommodation (if we're unable to get into hospital accommodation) will not be covered. Is this correct? I know public funds are limited but this seems very unfair as we don't really have a 'choice' about where the birth takes place and I wondered if this not paying for partners/escort is the norm for Shetland Mums & Dads. What happens if you're on low income or unable to cover the costs? If you can't afford to cover costs does this mean a woman has to be without her birth partner? Why isn't the dad or birth partner considered essential to the Mum and baby? Is there a way around this? Thanks

  13. Thanks HMRobertson for your post - I've found the same: GBH directing me to ARI mattie and vice versa and neither having useful info. Hopefully this post will collate some useful info. and be a reference for folk. Have also been wondering about wifi access - is there a spot in the ARI or anywhere close by? Anyone know? Still haven't heard back from the facebook group. Are they still active? Thanks in advance
  14. I agree. It's a stressful time as it is and I think island folk should be prioritised. It's difficult enough that you're unable to book in advance or get some clear info. on what to expect when you're down there.
  15. thanks folks for the useful info. I'm not on facebook but PM'd the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital Accomodation group via a pal's facebook page but haven't heard back from them. If anyone knows them do let them know that I'd be grateful for the info! I think in general it would be useful to collate this info for future Shetland Mums. thanks again for all the help
