  1. Ta Agree wi GR. I tocht a vott fur laeve wid be a clean brak an a bruk o sh*te. Dats why I votted Byde. A lot o da fok at votted laeve likkly tocht dey hed naethin to loss, and dat is mair dan likkly true for maist o dem. Hoosumever a lot lat demsels be misled - and Ignorance is no Defence. Bit aa fur dat, der is a fair case fur re-run, as der nae doot we wer leed til. Tavish has drapped wis at a parteecularly ill-judged time. Da slaverin ower his saet is geen da Nationalists a fit i da door wi da "independents" playin in ta der hands, by spleetin the vott.
  2. There’s likely to be a split vote resulting in a someone with an overall minority winning the seat. Could easily see SNP winning.
  3. The size problem is at Aberdeen. Potentially a larger vessel should be no problem in Lerwick. e.g. used to have the Norroena in regularly.
  4. Unless I am wrong the spelling refers to a previous post, (MO), where I think there was a pun-like joke. It was funny.
  5. No matter what political entity claims ownership of this part of the British Isles, I will always be British. I have some “Scottish” roots but I live in Shetland not Scotland. However I think I do not have any chips on my shoulder about sharing the British Isles with English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish. Time to grow up and move on.
  6. I dunna tink da country'll put up wi Boris or da Hunt fur lang. I doot an election'll follow shun efter idder wan o dem taks da post. Da wirry is dat Farage fins himsel PM, dat wid laed to Scottish Independence. Dat is, aless a coalition of LibLabGreens and SNP, manage ta seize pooer an force anidder referendum. I canna see ony tax cuts in England bein alloo'ed in Scotland idder. Da eens o wis dat work ir already paying mair tax nort o da boarder. Nae winder Tavish is duckin oot noo. Hits goin to be a bun fight.
  7. There’s probably a woman in the postal chain somewhere
  8. Just to show BM is rarely right. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4673002/Amputee-vet-Kirstie-Ennis-gave-Prince-Harry-royal-lashing.html Perhaps women don't always like show off their injures. But plenty have been maimed in battle.
  9. I think you’ll find it’s not Scotland alone, as the entire working classes of the UK have been exploited for centuries. Ask a Cornishman or aYorkshireman. Some of the exploiters have been Scottish, as have been many leading politicians. Time to get over this inferiority complex about the English. Scottish independence should be based on a modern evaluation of our needs and as soon as we get a more grown-up attitude from some independence advocates, then I for one would be happy to vote for independence. Especially as it would mean remaining part of the European family.
  10. Our coastal waters are patrolled by the Scottish Fishing Protection Agency controlled from the Scottish Parliament. Not a good sign of things to come. Most of the “Spanish Boats” are British flagged as well. I would bet when we leave, some of our local boats will re-flag in Norway or Denmark so they can find a market for their fish. Is the Tories who are driving this new era of “Nationalism” for their own benefit and they are pulling the rest of us Gullible mugs along with them.
  11. As soon as its no longer financially viable to keep botching up the infrastructure at SV. Might not be long.
  12. I think there was a dna study a few years ago that reckoned about 51% had a unique Norwegian DNA marker. It was for a tv series.. think the Western Isles had about 30 %. If my memory serves me right
  13. I tink they are Irish Travellers
  14. Like everything else, it depends who uses it. Its very useful for keeping in touch. And to a point it seems to allow free speech. However if you are unhinged you easily find things that support your mindset. Especially people who are into conspiracy theories and Trump. I once "liked" poppy day and got bombarded with anti-immigration and racist feeds.
  15. Commuting distance is relative. If you stay on Mainland and have a car, half an hour gets you to Lerwick from most places. Living on the Isles is good ,but you have to allow for the ferry timetables.
  16. I would have the moderators might have taken this ad down.
  17. As a unionist myself, I can see it makes sense for the people on the relatively small island of Ireland to unite. Eire is no foreign country, having so many ties with the UK, and the grip of religious dogma seems to be fading quickly.
  18. I think we should form our own union and invite Ireland to join. We would be Great Britain and Ireland.
  19. We don’t recognise sectarianism up here, let’s leave it that way. Up here we thinks it’s only a game of football.
  20. Now then , let’s not try and read anything too intellectual or any deep meanings into it. After all hits a toonie thing.
  21. It was an excellent, well made programme, aimed no doubt at showing off Shetlands wildlife to outsiders. We locals just have to git aff wir backsides and geen furt.
  22. Yes , I noticed the lighting at the Viking Bus station is particularly poor and difficult to see people waiting to cross at night. You really need to anticipate the possibility of people crossin* and adjust your speed accordngly
