Indeed, socially distanced harassment doesn't quite work as well! A small bonus.
While I think you and I may be voting differently it has been refreshing to see someone not in favour of independence (I think) not name calling, claiming being shouted down when trolling or asking questions only to ignore some perfectly reasonable answers - all acts which only further cement opinions for *insert tongue in cheek* FRRREEEEEEEDOOOOMMM!!!!
The independence thing does need put to bed one way or the other. Personally I don't see Scotland being such a rattle of poop that it's unable to pull itself through tough times and come out bigger and, better and in charge of itself. I'd like to see it's political spectrum devoid of the SNP, being able to vote for parties and policies and actually get what the majority decided with no hands tied (yes, I know some powers are devolved ATM!) by who England voted for.
However, I suspect the way the Conservatives seemingly wanting to hang on to us so badly means there's money to be made. They'll fire up their media machine to spread fear (e.g. their pension lies from last time around did them immense favours by terrifying the older demographic) and we'll end up staying put.

This current election , just like the last one in 2016, has come to be all about independence.  It is sidelining the important issues, such as Scotland's slipping education standards.
Really the sooner we put independence to bed, one way or another, the better. Then perhaps we could elect a  competent government.
At least, with covid, there shouldn't be a flag-waving, chanting mob at my local poll station this time.
There has been no daily visits from the campaigners, which has been wonderful.

vote anything bar the sort that hang around Westminster. Including Ian Blackford and his pals!
They are, after all,  politicians and in in for the glory and the power.  I don't believe the greater majority are in it for the People. They just want a seat at the Lairds table.

I wonder how many people say that in public but vote for more 'selfishly' in the privacy of the voting booth. Thanks not an accusation BTW @Muckle Oxters. I'm sure you're a selfless pillar of the community!

It’s kinda lik da difference between splittin da bill or aabody buyin dir own denner. When a group o folk split da bill dirs always some folk dat end up disgruntled because dey think dey’ve paid mair than they expected, (especially if dey didna hae wine or a starter!) but if aabody buys dir own denner dey get whit dey want and whit dey can afford.
I dee da HS2 rail link and Trident lik Scotland payin fur England’s wine and starter. Scotland might no be able to afford da steak and truffles, but we can still get a good feed fae da Harbour Cafe!

It’s quiet simple. And even a unionist lik me can see it.
fir a start Scotland only costs about 10% to run as England.
The different countries raise money by taxing their population.
income tax, vat, corporation tax, inheritance tax etc etc etc.
We already pay for our 10% so that’s where the money comes from to pay for our portion of NHS, education etc.
noo there might be savings to be made by buying in bulk, ie as part of a larger state, so in the short term there will a level of panic about money, but nothing insurmountable.

I’m no fan of BJ and his pals, but I can’t help but wonder if their bullish behaviour on acquiring early vaccines has not been a godsend. I also wonder if an independent Scotland would have had the a)resources b) the will to go against EU advice.
As GR said the fat lady is still to sing.

I’m no fan of Scottish Independence either, but I have no doubt that Scotland has the potential to run itself financially, given Good governance.
Scotland has(assuming Shetland stays in it)
A huge fishing and fish farming industry, which properly managed will be sustainable.
    A very valuable whisky industry.
World leading financial and legal services.
Vast potential in renewable energy, Hydro alone supplies much of England.
Land for successful farming and forestry
Tourism, Oil, still probably 100 years worth and will always be required for lubrication and plastics if not burning.
    theres a start

At least when we are independent we will no longer be able to whinge and moan about Westminster! Although some will continue to blame them, for a generation or two.
If the next indyref fails, then that will be it  for a generation. The fallout and recriminations will take years to mend. I suspect that is why the SNP leadership have been so canny. However the diehards are nipping at their toes and forcing another showdown. The sooner we have a referendum and put this to rest the better.
The power struggle at Holyrood is doing nothing for Scotland.

The new Scottish Hate Crime and Public Order law is indeed taking 21st Scotland into Big Brother territory.
It is very difficult, especially for older people like me and GR, to keep up with the pc terms to describe people of different nationalities, religions and skin colour.
Its all to  easy to cause offence and therein lies the danger of being  found guilty of hate crime.
so, yes, we no longer have freedom of speech.

A sizeable number of English people that moved to Scotland would like Scottish independence- in search of a socialist paradise no doubt- so define “us”.

In fairness, there may just be one or two points of interest buried in there somewhere, but fom my own personal position, I prefer to skip his/her/it's entire post.  Once, that is, after I have managed to scroll past a series of awful graphics.
NB;  Pretty pictures do not prove anything.  Try reasoned argument instead. If I wanted to see pictures, I would buy The Beano...

^Corrrrrong again. I've just come to learn that folk like you aren't worth the time.

You eased yourself in here and have somehow managed to make a forum that was already a shallow version of itself somewhere even less worthy of folks time. Bravo. But I'm sure you'll take that as some form of affirmation of your set-in-stone and over-inflated "views" somehow being validated. Best of luck with that!

Nope, there's no reason to make any sort of counter-point when it gets met with your endless and wasteful waffle e.g. you struggle with the basic concept of something being "false" when provided with basic and clear-cut actual evidence of it being false. As a general rule it's short shrift for folk that talk like a 5 year old with their fingers in their ears.

History should not be forgotten. However you cannot take on guilt of past people's activities . Should the young people of Germany or Japan still feel ashamed? Or countless other nations and tribes. - Learn and move on!
Current racism is bad and people require to be educated from a young age, as it is learned behaviour.
Attacking historical figures  just won't mean a thing to the racists.

While people are allowed to categorise humans as black or white this will always be divisive. Perhaps banning tags on people to describe a race or colour should be banned first. Being of peasant stock I am pretty sure that my forebears were more sinned against than sinning. I for one do not feel in the least bit of guilt for being a 100% British white.
