The Scottish government has reviewed mobile phone coverage in Scotland. Their report can be found here http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2013/09/6141/1 The most interesting page is here, giving the findings. http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2013/09/6141/5 Figure 11 on that page shows that Shetland is by no means the worst for 2g Not Spots (22.9% with Argyll & Bute having 38.9% of its area where there is no phone signal). Shetland is the worst for 3g. It is not available in 77.4% of the islands. Only Argyll & Bute and Highland come close.

I am not a technical person so please bear with me. I have a phone, on the vodafone network, that will allow me to use the internet. It works fine on wi-fi at home but, outside when I go into Lerwick, it is unable to get the internet at all. I have "data enabled" ticked in the settings so I don't know why there is a problem. In the past week, I have tried to use it (with the sound off) whilst waiting at the dentist and during a two-hour wait at the health centre. Others were using their phone, to access the internet at the health centre (although I don't know what network they were on), so is there a problem accessing 3G out and about in town with vodafone? Any thoughts?

We've not had any reception with Vodafone today and heard rumours of mast problems, possibly due to the weather. Anyone heard anything? (** mod edit - this thread is a merged combination of at least 5 discussions - please post messages regarding mobile phone coverage, signal outages etc in this thread rather than start a new one each time you encounter a problem with your phone - Cheers! **)
