The Oxjam Shetland Takeover returns for it's 3rd year this weekend - on Sat 25th October. 4 venues | Dozens of local artists | 1 wristband From 2pm until 2am, Lerwick will come alive with various gigs of all sorts of genres, dotted all around the town, showcasing the great musical talents Shetland has to offer. This 12 HOUR musical extravaganza will take place in the Lerwick Boating Club, Posers, Baroc and the Lerwick Legion. There will something for everyone - folk, metal, blues, rock, acoustic and jazz. The gigs at each venue are staggered throughout the day, so you can attend as much as you like, hopping from one place to another with an all access wristband. Wristbands for 18+ are priced at £10 and you will have full access to all the venues - provided you get there early enough! Wristbands for under 18s are priced at £6 and that can get you into the Legion and the Lerwick Boating Club. The Oxjam Takeover is a family friendly day - children under 5 can attend for free, and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. This year, Baroc will host our Oxjam afterparty. Entry will be £2 with a wristband, and £5 without. Oxjam is organised entirely by volunteers, and all musicians are donated their time and skills for nothing. All proceeds go to Oxfam as part of their annual, UK-wide music festival to raise money and awareness for their important work around the world. Local music, global impact. Oxjam Shetland’s Buskathon is back for another year! The third annual Buskathon will take place on Saturday 30th August, at various points along ‘Da Street’. For one day only, the team have recruited some buskers to brighten up the street with live music. We have both well-known musicians who fill up venues every weekend, to those who usually only perform in the comfort of their own home, occupying several 'busking stations', taking it in turns to show off Shetland's musical talent, and raising money for Oxfam while doing so. So take a wander along the street on Sat 30th, and show these amazing people some support! It’s all about raising money for a great cause, while promoting our local music scene and all it has to offer. If you fancy being more than just a passing spectator, there’s still plenty of time to volunteer for a little bit of busking yourself. Get in touch! Email oxjamshetland2014@gmail.com, or phone Ashlea Tulloch, Takeover Manager, on 07799281996. We’ve had everything from bagpipes to harps in the past – there’s a spot for everyone! If you’d like to find out more about Oxjam Shetland and our big annual Takeover on Sat 25th Oct, please search for us on facebook and check out our page. To find out more about volunteering opportunities with us, please get in touch via the contact information above. We’d love to hear from you. Local music, global impact.

In our final event before the Oxjam Takeover, we will be hosting Shetland's first ever Goldeneye N64 Tournament! Everyone into videogames remembers the days of playing the game 'Goldeneye' with all of their pals, and we're looking to recreate the magic of our youth by hosting a 32 man/woman tournament to see who can claim the title of Shetland's Goldeneye Champion, whilst raising money for Oxfam of course! This exciting fundraiser will be taking place upstairs in Mareel's cafe bar. There will be a range of cocktails on offer - one of which will be a special Oxjam cocktail where £1 of every drink purchased will go towards our total. There will also be music from our very own DJ Lyall, where you can expect at least one or two Bond hits in the mix! We encourage players and spectators to dress in their finest Bond attire, as there will be a prize for the best themed costume... Effort will be rewarded! To sign up to play in the competition, check out this link: http://tiny.cc/oxjamgoldeneye. The entrance fee is a minimum of £5 which must be paid before the night, in order to register your interest and secure a place. Of course as we're raising money for charity, feel free to donate more if you wish! 100% present of the proceeds on the night go towards Oxfam!
