  1. I'm interested in the Moorfield Estate in Brae, where anecdotally there are issues around the condition of houses in relation to damp/ventilation/heating/insulation, Council repairs, and potential impacts on health. There have been previous efforts in local media and online to bring attention to this, but I don't know to what extent these have been successful. If anyone can shed any light on the matter, is willing to share their experience, or can provide any supporting evidence, I'd really appreciate it. Being able to put together the full picture would be a strong footing from which to make progress.
  2. Hello people, I need your help. I'm studying Animal Behaviour and Welfare at a university in England and will be doing research on domestic cats and their hunting activities in Shetland. This will be taking place over July-August 2016. I will NOT be interfering with pet cats at all! Only observing them using cameras that will capture movement that happens close by. The thing I need help on is where the best locations to view cats is. I live in Quendale so only the mainland will be included. I would love to have information on places that many people own cats and if anyone notices common places for cats to hunt. Any information on this subject would be very appreciated! Also, if you have any questions about this, I'll be happy to answer. This research is in the process of ethical approval but be ensured it will not be interfering with your pet cat in any way. Thank you for any information!
  3. Hiya! So I'm doing some research into ghost stories on Shetland, particularly around Yell, for my Master's dissertation. I wanted to talk about the Windhouse. These are just some questions I'm asking to the general public right now. I've been to Shetland, and I love it there. I'm interested in the public and story teller point of view on Windhouse and some other things I'll ask in my questions. Naturally if you want to contact me, please do so! I'm always up for a conversation. Question One: What is the story of Windhouse? Is it a Ghost Story, or a Fairy Story (Trowy)? Question Two: Are ghost stories and fairy stories interwoven? Explain, if so? Question Three: What are some ghost stories or fairy stories you like? Question Four: What do you think of the role of ghost stories are in Shetland? Question Five: What do you think the role of Fairy Stories are in Shetland? Question Six: How do you identify with Shetland culture? Through Fairy Stories or Ghost Stories? Question Seven: Do you think stories have a natural evolution through story tellers? Do they adapt to changing times? Question Eight: Why is Yell more popular with Ghost Stories than the other Isles? Do you think this is true, or untrue? Question Nine: What are the role of ghosts in Shetland? Question Ten: Do you think story telling is important in Shetland? Any other comments, questions, concerns, stories, are welcomed! I would like to thank you ahead of time for those who will answer the questions above. You're more than welcome to answer all or one or two. Any additional information is also welcomed.
