Frances144
They are everywhere. Is there a plague of them? paludic
RileyBKing
There certainly is, & that includes us. They are also much more resistant to flyspray than the big ones.
Ghostrider
There's a few more than usual, just the peerie hoose flees though, seen fewer than normal bluebottles this year. Possibly something to do with the long dry spell, followed by the very wet spell, followed by these few warmer sunny days. The buggers need a certain optimum level of combined moisture and temps to hatch.
Hector's House
One 75p fly swatter from Home Furnishings and 30 mins of furious flailing - job done!I dislike fly spray, especially as flies naturally congregate in kitchens, as the chemicals are (necessarily) none too life-friendly. Much prefer the "kinetic" kill approach Ghostrider
Suffererof1crankymofo
I have one of those battery-operated zap 'em tennis racquet shaped thingies.
George.
There were thousands of them buzzing around me in the back garden the other day. Never bothered the hens though.
Ghostrider
^ They were probably catching and eating enough of them to be satisfied. Should be good deep red coloured yolks in the eggs for a few days on the strength of them. Hens like a little protein.
Colin
I'm, generally, well disposed to other forms of life but, I must admit that flies 'get to me'.I've got an electronic fly killer. Almost 'industrial' quality with two blue tubes to attract them. Also use fly papers. Not sure if I prefer the very satisfying 'crackle and burn' when the high voltage electronics get them or watching them struggle (in vain) to get off the papers. Suffererof1crankymofo
^ The flies landed on His laptop, chaos ensued and His mug a tea attempted to impersonate said fly! You're right, the yolks have darkened in colour, and a bit larger within the egg too. There's a lot to be said for these flies!!!
