Redrobbie99
Having visited Scalloway today my eye was drawn to the roofless Scalloway Castle perhaps the most famous building in Shetland . I am the only one who wonders why in this day of lottery grants etc why this fine building has never been refurbished ? Colin
I seem to remember Iris Hawkins wanting to re-roof it at one point. Perhaps there are to many "agencies" that want to "dictate" how things are done. Anyway, famous it might be (locally) but, it's just a "monument to tyranny".. gafynandrew
Ghostrider
Infamous surely. Come the revolution, it'll do as a prison. Other than that it should have been bulldozed and used as infill in some of the Blacksness pier works over the years. At least that would have put it to work, which would have been an improvement on the curse and parasite its been from the day the old Scots sausage conceived its creation. MuckleJoannie
Historic Scotland refuse to allow any improvement on any building they look after. They insist that they remain in whatever condition they were in on the date they took the building over.
ll
Were the windows not an improvement?
MuckleJoannie
It was Historic Scotland that put them in so it doesn't count. Ghostrider
