Redrobbie99
Will Brexit mean the end of the Shetland / Aberdeen ferries having to go out for tender ?
George.
I would think that unless the Scottish government provides the ferry service itself, it will always go to tender. Unless they're digging a tunnel from Sumburgh to Thurso. Edited November 16, 2016 by George.

George.
My understanding was that the ferries had to go out to tender because of EU rules . Brexit will mean the UK could ditch that requirement . Each and every EU "rule" inflicted upon should be ditched. We need out because they are both leaching off us, and controlling us to the point that we don't get a say in. Once we are out we can decide how we choose who operates the ferries. whalsa
Slightly off topic but it was also EU state aid rules which the SIC used as an excuse to not pursue the Whalsay pier proposal which would have seen a Norwegian company build a fish factory in the isle. http://www.shetnews.co.uk/news/12243-plans-for-new-whalsay-fish-factory-in-doubt Does Brexit now mean this project could be re-visited? Very much doubt it, many in the current SIC would be aghast at investing large sums in Whalsay, despite the Shetland wide benefits it would bring. Many in the current S.I.C would be aghast at investing large sums, or any sums, anywhere that they don't directly benefit from. Ferries versus tunnels and bridges comes to mind.
