In reference to Vic Thomas' letter about Planning issues on Shetland, I believe there are a lot of people on Shetland unhappy with the way decisions are made, but maybe the reason people won't respond is that they are to scared to speak out as they may work for the Council or family members do. It's surprising where axes may fall if they have to. People also have business to run and a living to earn. They may also need planning themselves in the future.
It's the fear of reprisals in the future that prevents the changes from happening and the Council know this.
The only way a pressure group to reform planning on Shetland will work is if the people have nothing to lose. The planning system on Shetland does need sorting out.
Some people on Shetland however need the planning system to stay the same as they have a vested interest in the outcomes.

(Vic Thomas-a contact phone number may help and Tavish may be your best bet)

i would be very careful with Tavish he is one of the Shetland  higher echelons and may even be a member of a secret society which seems to be the required pass on the C V to work for the S I C ...apt name

^ Aye, remember where gave Tavo his first break and leg up to higher things as an elected representative.

Honour among thieves and all that guff.... The SIC are sitting pretty as far as being taken to task by our MSP goes.

In our own dealings with Tavish, I have only praise in the way he took time out on several occasions to support our initial planning application and subsequent successful appeal.

Hopefully the SIC and friends ‘Good old boys club’ is slowly dying a death now that people are starting to be held to account, and colleagues’ and associates are becoming reluctant to cover for others, it’s had a few chink’s in its Armor of late and the cracks are getting bigger as with their Sh*te House, let’s hope for everyone’s sake it comes sooner rather than later and somebody is actually brought to account!

I very much doubt that it will be dying a death.

Jeezo.  What a bunch of (a) grumpy old buggers and (B) conspiracy theorists.  I assume none of you have actually thought about standing for the Council and talking to a bigger audience, i.e. one which extends beyond yourselves?
