Wedding Locations...

Recommended Posts

So I've looked online to find a list of places that have a wedding venue licence within Shetland. A lot of nice places...

BUT.....

No beach wedding options. This is surprising and makes me sad. If beach wasn't an option, I was hoping to be able to be married in a barn... but again, there are none that I've found within Shetland that have the licence.

I'm not missing something, am I?

This is the list of wedding venues allowed, according to SIC:

A couple came up to Shetland last year to marry on Norwick Beach on Unst. Unfortunately, the weather very much put a stop to that idea and they ended up marrying at Saxa Vord. Was covered by The Shetland Times.

Edit:- Here's the article if you're interested....... http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2017/07/16/metal-hunters-get-hitched-surviving-horror-crash

Ha ha - they got married after cheating death - while marriage is more like accepting it  :???:

A few folk have had beach weddings in Shetland, one at St Ninian's Isle a few years back, and I think someone married at Spiggie more recently.....

Choose summer, have a 'Plan B' - like a small marquee, nearby building, etc, and its do-able.

As I understand it, you can get married anyplace you feel like, with the owner's permission, and if the SIC decree they're willing to issue a licence for it.

I think I'm right in saying at least one couple, possibly more, have been married in Scalloway Castle....and lacking a roof, that's not really all that more risky than a beach, as long as its summer......
