I am in the planning stage for a hearth. Intending to use slate but open to suggestions.

Does anyone know where best to aquire slate or other and have it cut to size?

Hearth will need to be 940mm Wide and 850mm Length.

Rod Rob at Jewsons would be good to talk to. He fits all manner of stoves and the like. Slate ain't cheap in any great thickness!

+1 for Jewson's. I got some good advice there (but haven't got my finger out to put a stove in yet)

50mm thick slate hearths at Jewsons are expensive but their 20 mm thick slate slabs are relatively cheap. I used two (60 x 90 mm) together together our to make up our 3 replacement hearths in our old house. Look just fine.
