Pleased that everyone is safe(?) but, I wonder just what drove them to take a North Sea cruise at this time of year?  Was it "pretty pictures" or something ?

I also wonder if the shipping line is completely blameless(?) in this respect as well.

There doesn't seem to be many people with knowledge of the coastline where he was and the prevailing weather conditions at the time, who are of the opinion that what he was attempting to do was anything less than unwise.

Lets face it, when the same weather that kept the north boat tied to the pier is bearing down on a lee shore on the other side of the puddle, sight seeing maybe isn't the best of time fillers, especially in a vessel like that.

Whether owners, skipper or bad luck, or a mix of two or all of them put them in what they ended up with, time will no doubt tell. At least no-one died (yet), but its crap for those who have ended up hospitalised, and from the posts coming up on the web last night from passengers, nobody was having fun.

Crazy, as the whole thing was so un-necessary and preventable.

Ah yes, the video doing the rounds of furniture and plants whizzing across the floor whilst the piano remained still ... anyone else imagined a pianist at the piano continuing to play as it waltzed across the floor?  Sugar, just me then. ;-)

So, what went wrong with the engines then ?

Lack of maintenance ?

Or another ship that ran out of fuel..

They have more than 1 engine.  Chances are it was an issue with the fuel..  Maybe filled up with petrol not deisel or, more likely, possibly got a little water in it

Guess they will take their time to check it out. Probably shouldn't have taken a pleasure trip in a storm.

Wonder if the rolling stirred up a lot of rubbish in the fuel tanks?

Both the Hildasay and Helliar had this trouble when they came from a sheltered route to WNA

She was rolling so much it starved the oil pumps of an adequate supply from the sumps, and triggered a computer auto engine shutdown due to low oil pressure, apparently.

Not what MAN want to hear said about their motors I daresay, but then again they are a VeeDubya outfit so what it says on the tin, and what it does etc........
