  1. I see that Eurostat says only "1 out of 5 first time asylum seekers originates from Syria" Interesting to note in the report that 17,700 were from Albania, which is a country at peace. http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/documents/2995521/6996925/3-18092015-BP-EN.pdf/b0377f79-f06d-4263-aa5b-cc9b4f6a838f http://metro.co.uk/2015/09/19/eu-statisticians-claim-only-1-in-5-migrants-are-from-syria-5398412/
  2. How demeaning to have to ask a charity shop to reduce the price! I know of an elderly gentleman who used to ask for a reduction in the scrapstore and he was threatened with being banned if he continued asking.
  3. I had my monthly visit to town this week and was pleased to see that the prices in the Scrapstore have come down to an affordable level again.
  4. Well I am... almost lost for words! Cope has kept that little nugget quiet. It seems they can go gallivanting off all over the place when Disability Shetland are desperately trying to raise £10,000 to survive. Disability Shetland helps disabled people across the isles through clubs and activities. A most worthwhile charity. I wonder how much COPEs jaunt is costing!
  5. I was looking on the Shetland Home Co. facebook page and saw they are selling a broken kiddies play tent for £10.00. I couldn't believe that they would charge so much for a damaged toy - they helpfully point out that it " doesn't affect play" they dont mention how a child would feel getting a broken toy. The people I know who buy their children toys from the scrapstore do it because money is tight, and £10 is a big chunk from the weeks money. Frankly anything that is broken should be free or 50p at best. Sort out your pricing COPE!
  6. I was in the Scrapstore last week, I had hoped the new manager would have brought the prices down a bit, sadly most things are way over priced. When will these folks realise that Shetland folk are not rolling in money.. or are the going after the Gas Boom crowd!

  10. I see that Director Neil Jaimieson owns the joinery business that seems to do all the joinery work around COPE, with the exception of the Garden Shop. For example all the bed and mattress storage in the Home Front, the wooden stands in the Garden Centre and so on, and on... Nice to keep it all 'in the family'....

  12. Peter Malcolmsons is Ingrid Webb - the general manager of COPE's father.
  13. ... and the rest!!... What is it about this management that cant keep its staff?
  14. I recently flew from Aberdeen to Sumburgh with carry on baggage that fitted into the overhead locker with no problem. On my return flight the Woman at the Check-in desk refused to accept my small case - which was well within the airport check in dimensions - and tried to insist I checked it in. When I made a fuss it was changed to being 'checked' in at the aircraft door and collected at the other end. I was annoyed to have been made to feel as if I had 'broken' the rules, when I had done nothing of the sort. I wonder how many people end up payng the £30+ extra charge to check in perfectly 'legal' baggage, I gather from talking to other people that tis woman is renowned for her harsh treatment of passengers. Is she on some sort of bonus scheme?? (*** Mod - edited for T&Cs ***)
