FROM SHETLAND BOX OFFICE AT MAREEL & ISLESBURGHTEL. 01595 745555www.shetlandboxoffice.orgOne of the biggest bands to come out of Scotland over the past decade make a welcome return to Shetland in the summer following a last minute gig in the isles back in 2012.The View will headline the bill for a Mid Summer show taking place atMareel on Saturday 21st June.The band previously played Shetland’s flagship music venue in December 2012 when they travelled north at 2 weeks notice to take the place of The Happy Mondays who were unable to fulfil the date due to illness.The View formed in Dundee in 2005 and quickly gained a formidable live reputation thanks to support slots around the UK with the likes of Primal Scream and The Libertines.Within 2 years of forming the band had a top 3 single with Same Jeans and a number 1 album with their debut, Hats Off To The Buskers, under their belt. A string of further hit singles followed with Wasted Little DJ’s, Superstar Tradesman and 5 Rebecca’s cementing the bands reputation as one of the country’s most poular indie rock acts.The View have released a further 3 albums, Which Bitch, Bread and Circuses and the Cheeky for a Reason album which the band toured on their last visit to Shetland.In addition to all their critically acclaimed albums the The View also released their first greatest hits album entitled Seven Year Setlist which gave the band their 5th consecutive Top 40 album.Joining The View at Mareel will be special guests, The Holy Ghosts, touted as one of the hottest new emerging bands in Scotland.The Holy Ghosts were formed in Edinburgh and are fronted by Shetlander Jack Sandison who is joined amongst others by ex-Complete Stone Roses singer Jason MacKenzie.The Holy Ghosts had great success in 2013 with the release of their Voodoo Shakedown EP which alongside some blistering live shows earned the band a Scottish Alternative Music Award.2014 should see The Holy Ghosts build on last years successes with the release of their highly anticipated debut album Ride It Down.Local alternative rock outfit The Last will open the show on June 21st and make a welcome return to the Shetland rock scene following a quiet period for the band which has seen them writing the follow up to their successful debut EP Halos and Heartbreaks.Tickets for the show go on sale from Shetland Box Office at midday on Friday 21st March and the event is open to over 14’s, although anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
