  1. Whit, do folk expect paying for doing work for the council. Whatever next. I would have thought the honour and prestige of serving such an elite and hallowed organisation would have been adequate reward in itself.

The beggars wouldn't employ me the one time I asked, many, many years ago.  I can only surmise I hadn't quite perfected the art of being able to adopt quite the right pose of leaning on a shovel. :P

..............or reading the local rag, in a yellow van, parked in some obscure hideaway at 9am on a Friday morning

And 9am on a Monday morning, and 9am on a Tuesday mo.............;)

  2. Sold out :-(

Queued from 7, got to the bottom of the high level music steps.. then they were gone! Lass i knew who wasn't far in front of me had ticket 251... guess there was maybe a few kept back for the arts trust clique (kidding - just bitter and cold!!))

    Definition of kidding:

To engage in teasing or good-humored fooling.

    To Mock, tease

    To deceive in fun

The flesh of a young goat

Do some people live on here simply to gripe and bloody moan about everything.

    Yes

  3. We, Chelsea, are not consistent enough to win it. Our whole season depends on Drogba not being a baby.

    We won't win it.

    Burnley won't be relegated.

A few months into the season now JA, hows the confidence on Chelski winning the championship while sitting very comfortably on top o the tree?

  4. I wid like to see figures for Centres that make a loss at this time o year. I can't think Unst, who have lots of annual events like cricket and squash happening at this time o year when bairns are home from Uni, College and Lerwick makes a loss because it attract a larger number of visitors and customers through the door because of these events.

  5. I wonder why you feel like you are not treated "like other people" Billy. Do you look or act differently to any other person?

From the short time we've known him then it seems to be a yes. Getting on his high horse for folk slagging off gays, when every post regarding being gay so far has been positive towards them.

  6. Yeh, just to make it clear I was only after advise on the practicalities of each place; transport, community stuff etc , definitely not putting one place up against the other.

Other areas may be offered to us but the other day they were the only two locations they said there were vacancies.

My wife is going to try to chase up the housing allocation with her future bosses and housing today. We've been keeping an eye out for private rented places on in the Shetland News, Times and Solicitors websites but doesn't seem to be much available, only 1 bed flats or expensive short term winter lets.

Thanks for everyones inputs, lots of food for thought.

    Kev

Enquire about private accommodation, because everyone knows everyone here then there is sometimes very little point in adverising their private rents because they know someone interested.

  7. I did phone them, straight after their 'regular updates'. Same old rubbish.

I also received a letter through the post saying that I was ready to be connected straight away, however when I phoned them, spend a long time on a premium rate number, because they didn't know why this letter was sent.

Very annoying, I just wish there was competition against them. (I know there is Freeview, but I can't receive that - yet)

  8. Has anyone else ordered Sky HD?

We ordered ours 2 months ago, got told there was a 3 month waiting list.

2 Months later, were getting told there is 3 months to go! We're getting nowhere in this list. I wonder if its because the Sky installers in Shetland are pish.

Anyone have ideas about waiting lists south?

  9. Does anyone else use Tesco mobile? They use da o2 Network.

I purchased a sim card the other day from Tesco, as a 'tide over' until organised enough to get a mobile, and I have found no faults whatsoever with them.

The signal quality is great, brilliant deals etc. They double your credit, sometimes triple (i.e. £10 credit doubled to £20, but £15 tripled to £45.)

Anyone else had good / bad things happening with them?

  10. If it was me, there is no competition between da two. Would move tae North Roe without a doubt. And I wid never live in Firth, I keen o folk there that I wouldn't want any form of association with, including them living near my family. Its agreed you get these sort o folk most places you go, but in Firth, there are more, and they are worse.

Saying that there are some very, very fine folk that live there!

North Roe is a beautiful place with a fantastic community spirit and an excellent place to visit. The choice between these two, North Roe for me, but granted its not everyones choice. Thats just one opinion :)

  11. Tore Andre Flo was sold for £9.5 million (christ knows how)

Boumsong was signed on a free and sold for £8 million to Newcastle.

Not disagreeing about the financial largesse of the Advocat days but its not all bad news and some of the transfer dealings have been quitre astute.

There have been all sorts of high profile complete flops at Rangers and Celtic (some who haven't even kicked a ball but cost the clubs a fortune) over the last 10 years and more

The Boumsong example was maybe no a good one, but Tore Andre Flo was sold for under £7m to Sunderland, a loss of at least £5m, how many players could Rangers buy with that nowadays??

Answer - None, because it would go towards paying their debt

  12. I did laugh at the hippy comment!

The folk I haven't got a problem with, its the barron landscape I find boring, many a good night in Yell, Hilltop especially, but no at one of the discos you provide.

Your rant about money being balled at the isle since the closure of the SaxaVord belongs in a different thread. But to clear the record, there was rumours of a closure, nothing concrete, and said rumours were that it was going to cut staff within the next 10 years, not close completly within 8 months.

As for the ferry fares stopping, I believe personally this should happen on all sailings over Shetland, something the North Isles councillors are pushing for, including your own Robert Henderson and Laura Baisley.

There is alot more money being wasted on different things across Shetland, Bressay Bridge and AHS school surveys, a high school in Skerries. Balling a few (hundred thousand) pound at a community in despair is something I believe the council should be doing.

Also I don't actually live there anymore, although it would ay be the home.

So to conclude the rant.....I don't like your discos, aa I was trying to originally say. However your off topic judgements of myself couldn't go undefended.

Mods please feel free tae move this off topic subject somewhere more appropriate!
