Just putting some feelers out.
I know not everyone has an incubator, so, if I were to bring up some meat bird hatching eggs like the previous batch some folk on here had. Would anyone be interested in buying some meat bird chicks as day olds. As well as those of you who might like a 2nd batch of hatching eggs.
Those of you who had hatching eggs were happy with your hatch rates, but could you let me know how you have found them as growing birds. Mine are about a week and a half ahead of the projected growth rates predicted at 9wks old, with no leg or other health problems.

Lovely quiet girl, you'll be sorry to see her go!

Crackin' Night!

Warm horse and horse rugs, leather, hay store full of fresh hay, fresh bedded stable, good silage, well kept animal byres, warm meadow flowers in the early evening as the sun lowers.

Congratulations

Follow-up to fertility rate of 86%, everything that was fertile has hatched so we now have a noisy box of day-old chicks

Ours are pipping, noisy little beggers

When I was young I REALLY wanted a bright red bike so I went and asked my mother if I could get one from Santa
"Go and ask your father," was all she said
"Go and ask your mother," was all that he said upon my return.
As I was running between the two for about the thirteenth time I fell over and smacked my head on the coffee table. All I could hear through my brain pounding was my mother screaming, "YES! Fifteen love, my serve!

Top marks to the staff at Isleburgh - I found out about the gig and phoned for tickets at 20:50 on Friday night, fully expecting the phones lines to be closed, yet there was someone there so I managed to get 2 for my birthday
-
Panic over - Buses appear to be running today, I have just seen the 23 roll down to Mossbank for the 1st run of the day into town.

@hermie10
I looked on the shetland.gov.uk website and then the Zettrans link:
http://www.zettrans.org.uk/bus/transportdirectory09.pdf
Bottom of page 3 says "In general bus and air services do not operate on public holidays. Please contact the operattor of the service for clarification".
@Longdog
I'll probably end up doing that and throwing fuel money in

Having booked the car in at Jims in Lerwick for Monday morning, I have just realised there is no bus running to get me home again.
Would anyone be heading out on the North Road tomorrow morning? Car booked for 9.30 so I will be heading out of town again about 10 am.
Any chance of a lift through to Brae or towards Toft????? Please!

Frances - I am asking around for you.
To those of you who ordered hatching eggs - I candled ours tonight and we have a fertility rate of 86.5% despite travel through the post. I I know fertility is not hatched chicks but it is a darn good start.

Meat chicken eggs on order now, should be here by the end of the week. Am still inquiring for white commercial turkey for those wanting them, my norfolk x bronze boy treading happily, Mrs turkey looking bemused/resigned eggs to be laid soon methinks if any one interested

Where to put that the birth took place would have been Name of Vessel and Latitude and Longitude if not docked at time of birth! Interesting talking point whenever place of birth conversations come up

In response to the gripe about Parcelforce - the reason it takes longer is due to them coming up on the boat rather than the plane. As a postie, I would also like to gripe - has anyone tried getting 3m lengths of guttering from Screwfix into the back of a Vauxhall Combo ??
Yet if I took that to the Post Office they would refuse to take it due to it's size - or how about the parcel I had the other day which alongside the Parcelforce delivery note had a nice yellow sticker stating that "this parcel contravenes Parcelforces terms of carriage due to being over-sized". I still had to deliver it. Make sense - NO

Hi paulb, I will get a price on the turkey eggs but the meat bird eggs get cheaper with larger quantities, before xmas he was quoting 12 eggs £18 inc p+p but only £75 inc p+p for 100 eggs, if I can get a sizeable order together we all pay the cheaper price!

A company have agreed to send me up meat breed hatching eggs and sex linked layer hatching eggs and commercial turkey eggs if anyone is interested in getting some on the same order and save on shipping costs.

Cheers Njugle, thought it odd that there would be a bye-law protecting a vermin breeding season.

Just a quick query to check if there is a time of year you cannot shoot rabbits? I mind talking to someone the other day who claimed you can't (legally) shoot if theres an R in the month ie no rabbiting May, June, July, Aug. As you may be leaving young to starve in the nest. Is there a Shetland bye-law to this effect that I've not heard of previously?
Cheers
P.S. Meat from rabbits that time of year is really only fit for the dog though unless you get young pre-breeding rabbits.

I'd choke too at that price

How many chicks have this problem? If just the one, howold is it? We normally create a hobble on a chick affected with splay leg. I f you Pm me an email addy I can send you some step by step piccies. If they are young enough a few days is all it needs to straighten up. Left too long the leg will cause it to be unable to support its growing weight and you'll have to cull it.
