  1. I get the following with shetlink.com as search term:

    Shetlink

Shetlink - Shetland's online community. ... Welcome to Shetlink. Intro Hello and

welcome to Shetlink.com, the online community for the Shetland Islands. ...

    www.shetlink.com/

If you type in shetlink it's the first listing, which is, after less than a month of the spiders crawling, pretty good! The "key" now is to expand the keywords to attract further listings.

  2. The future for Unst will be one of the options in this article.

Not sure where you're going with your train of thought? Is there even a station to pull into?

Are you saying that, paraphrasing from the article, that Unst "has become an unimaginably vast, cold, dark and profoundly lonely place", or are you trying to suggest that they build an Observatory in Unst?

The latter would be a waste of monies due to Unsts' relatively low height relative to sea level, and that Shetland for .1% of the year is covered in large fluffy clouds ... and not so fluffy, angry dark menacing clouds the other 99.99% of the time!

I have to admit I didn't read the whole article, so may be way off the mark here. I am willing to be corrected! Violently with large sticks if need be!

  3. We grew up in a wholey different climate to nowadays. We went to country halls dotted around the island every weekend, with a different band playing in each. It was our contemporaries that were creating the music, and we went to watch and support them. It was great. Everybody got foo, and everyone had a great time.

Through the summer months we had the Brig 'o Fitch, the Fort, and the odd other weekend pitched in a ditch somewhar idder like Kergord or some such place.

There is nothing like that anymore ... but to be honest it had to come to an end. The halls were gong to end up losing drinks licenses because of the amount of underage drinking etc etc. and the scene started to drift off and that was that.

Its a shame really, the country halls starting up again would be a great revival.

  4. It should have been left alone. It was probably going to die anyhow, and should have not been prodded, lifted and annoyed in the attempt to save it.

Typical eejits thinking they can save the world. Before the thing was half way up the thames in the first place, there was something wrong with it!

Shoulda shot it between the eyes, and put it out it's misery!

  5. I've been on and off the fags now for a couple of years. I haven't had a fag since new year, and before that I hadn't had a fag for a month+. I'm not craving any fags and I'm on a detox and going to the gym so am not in any way wanting to smoke again.

My advice is to change the routines where you would smoke normally. It's a mental thing - and this is the area where you might fail! Alcohol and pubs is the killer!

  6. Been reading up on petrodollars and their involvement in the Iraq war.

Having been concerned for some time now over Americas world dealings, the crescent being when they refuted the Kyoto agreement! Now things are becoming very very clear.

We have a country whos energy needs are expanding because of its unchecked energy consumption and who's deficit is fast approaching its GDP.

The worlds economies are pushed towards buying oil in dollars by OPEC, and this commerce is now fast becoming Americas only real source of money to prop up its military and world dominance. Americas economy IS based on oil!

So Iraq, the second largest oil producer, turning towards Euros to sell its oil was set to imblance Americas economy.

How else could Bush rectify this, but to charge into the country on false pretences backed by the UK, who's own economy was propped up by the US in the 50's in the Suez crisis!!?

Why doesn't the Bush administration address a proper energy strategy rather as spiralling out of control and ignoring the Baker report almost altogether?

Make moves with the other G8 nations to replace the unsustainable Dollar as the central world reserve currency through taxing currency exchange?

Rejoin with UN policy making and the UN as central pillar to the world?

    All of the above?

  7. Remember that there was a Barry somebody that bumbled around SE Asia and then Russia a few years back. There was one or maybe a couple of bits in the paper about his travels. This was interesting and just the right amount of coverage given to it. I have to agree the postcards from america are beginning to drag on now. I gave up reading them a while back.

  8. If I remember correctly, Alan McLoud and Marvin Smith had a show on Radio Shetland called "XS All Areas" a few years back. They recorded local bands (a la John Peel) and had live sessions. They released a CD of the recordings called The XS Sessions, which is still available locally, or from the Bleatbeat website.

There was some real good shows then. Shame that theres not more Shetland based talent broadcast!!!

The microcosm that is Shetland has produced some real good bands playing real good music. Some have even grown to international status, yet we don't even celebrate this at home! ! !

Why is that??!? Is it because there are too many problems with royalties??!? I'm sure many of the bands would forfeit these to have their music out there, and to rely on boosted CD sales because of it.

Good luck with the site by the way!!
