I think the economy here is far too reliant on council spending, Reality has faded away. When the global economy enters tough times in the near future, when the UK debt burden pushes us into an economic depression, sterling collapses and government money all but dries up, we might all be left up turd creek without a paddle. I think that instead of encouraging people into artificial created non-jobs in the council, islanders should be encouraged to become more entrepreneurial in order to boost the real economy. When the turd hits the fan we need to have some form of income generating produce to fall back on.
Our economy is not built to last, making the council more inefficient than it already is not going to help matters.
I agree with most of that. I don't buy the economic meltdown theory but certainly it is a very worrying matter that the council now have so much power throughout the isles simply through it's spending power. Not a good thing.

Yes traffic has been diverted up Market street so i would presume from there back towards king harlds street is safe.
It the flats next to the wheel bar and above Barok that i bleive ahve been evactuated fro 24 hours.. but not sure if it is a wind up or not at this moment
Yet people working around the North Ness are left where they are? Expendable?

I'm no in Shetland at da moment, nor is da idder elder statesman o wir team (we're da two 26-year-aulds). Very few players based in Shetland are ower da age o 20, an' dey have no idea whit tae mak o dis craziness.
No loan players = No team. Da SFA wins.
Nobody wins. Football loses, simple as that.
Yell are not the only club facing a football meltdown. There are serious questions to be answered by everyone who plays or has an interest in football in Shetland.
ALL clubs have to look at themselves, what they offer the young of Shetland what the take and expect in return. And that has to be answered by any club who offer youth nothing at all including clubs of teh SFA and teh Woks League.
-
The promised formal "meeting" niver happened (da words pissup and brewery come to mind) but enough o wis spoke wi da upper echelons tae keen whit da craic is. Im truly amazed at da inability o virtually everybody in Shetland - includin' da SFA - tae confront da realities o dis situation. Gather everybody in a room tae sort it oot an' dey just look at da floor an' shrug der shoulders.
Call an EGM of the association? I can't remember the support needed but your club should have a constitution?

Andy Websters possibily signing on loan from Wigan tomorrow.
He is a Hearts reject for petes sake man. Is that the best Murray can come up with?

If the dressing room was split before today, what will it be like now?
I forsee the auld alliance crumbling fast!
-
F*** the national team they are garbage. Rangers need McCoist.
Aye, up front!
-
Rangers should go for someone with a proven track record, someone who has done it at a good league in Europe not inexperiance like McCoist.
Oh wait a minute, we had one of them!!
-
Well fook me, I couldn't have been more wrong.
I can't believe that Murray would let him leave, but I think he has. It has surely been PLGs decision
Its a very, very sad day for Rangers
Fergie will need to be player-manager-director because he's presumably doing the hiring and firing now too
Sacked I tell thee. All this dignified mouse dropings from Murray is a smokescreen, or is it a moonbeam?
He has made a real mistake. He has backed a jumped up wee nyaf over an experianced coach who was finding his feet despite the captain of the club being obstructive.
-
Goodbye PLG! Sad day for Rangers in my opinion. Will Barry Ferguson be the new player-manager?
Well no manager worth his salt would take that now, not with player power running the club.
-
If Fergie can sit tight for a few more weeks, Le Guen will be gone well before him. Also, what is Murray going to think of his most talented player and second highest earner sitting in the stand no getting a game ?
So you think he'll sack the man that he spent so much time and effort getting, the man most of Europe wanted as there boss (and he's bound to be on a decent wage too don't forget). Fergie will be back in the team as soon as his toys are back in his pram.
I'm hearing le revolution is over!!!!
Sacked!
-
So ze ranjurs will be super dooper because wee bazz is on the way oot.
Mmmmm, don't quite get that given he is one of only a smal, wee, peerie handful of football players they have now?
-
Hanging him was not a bad thing to do in my opinion but the manner in which it was done was appalling.
Life really is cheap over there and religion and religious differences are being used as front for violence again.

Had the misfortune of catching most Rangers victory over Murderwell today.
Does anyone feel sheer outrage against Nacho Novo? The man is obviously a gifted player, but does he really need to take so many tumbles? Scottish football is a better place without the divers (as proof of the pudding, you don't see anyone missing Stilian Petrov do you?).
Furthermore, after throwing a (missed) punch at an opposition player Novo manages to avoid getting sent off. Instead the ref sends off Prso! (maybe he realised Prso had taken a dive for the penalty and decided to restore karma! )
Why was Ferguson not playing?
-
Is this Heart of MidLithuania we are speaking about?
-
Here's da situation - Plain and simple:
Yell cannot enter da A League nixt season, no metter how much da SFA moan aboot it. So whit happens?
Works League.
Then again they don't play on a Sunday afternoon in Mid Yell or do they?
-
Disband the SFA and let them those who want join the works league, after all it is a wonderfully run and fantastically organised single tier league with no problems at all.
So dere!
-
The problem as I see it Spency7 is that there is great difficulty bending rules to suit individual clubs. That is why they ended up with a "B" league with 11 sides and a top league with 6.
You cannot tell Ness United, Whitedale and Burra or Spurs Celtic or Scalloway they have to play in an A league and let Yell and Unst trundle along for ever more in the second division.
-
Thus it suggests the transience of all human effort, of all materiality ... and whether by design or not, it strikes to the very core our mortality ...
Wit did he say?
-
For the same question substitute the hos and jockey (?) with and car driver and vehicle (give Schumaker a Lada and lets see how he does), sailing and punt, etc.
Firts past the post sports only I say. The ability to buy the best equipment and judging out!
-
I just don't get a major point in this debate.
If Yell, Unst or any other side can get 11 on the park for the B league why can't they get 11 on the park for a league with a different name?
There will certainly be a split between the sides in the league, just like the EPL. Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal split from the rest around now and we can name those who will wallow around the bottom two places at the start of the season.
In fact the SPL is almost a mirror of what will happen in Shetland next summer
Celtic (read Delting)
Two or three more sides (Aberdeen, Whalsay, Hearts, LK Celtic, Scalloway), you choose.
Then the mid table lot from Kilmarnock, Whitedale, Rangers, LK Thistle, HIbs etc.
Then the lot at the foot from St Mirren, Unst, Dunfermline, Yell, Burra etc.
It is the same in almost every league is it not?

How much does the ferry cost to run per year? As much as £2 million? I guess it's possible but seems high.
That's a lot of beer!

Folks, UHA is a big party that is all.
All the viking guff is just that. It stared with tar barrels and parties in houses etc, we now drag a big chinese dragon and burn that with bigger parties. That will change inmy view when the hall owners realise that is costs them a fortune to do it and actually causes damage.
Rangers new manager

Its a non event signing.
Third in comand of Celtic reserve and youth set-up to the rangers dugout along with Durrant. Man they will be quaking now. Surely the Murray Mint can do better than that?
PS. Celtic had already taken on John Park from Hibs (the man who has taken through all these yuong players) to help with their new training comlpex at Lennoxtown.
