  1. Hi We are looking to borrow or buy (at the right price) a psychology text book:- The Science of Mind and Behaviour by Richard D Gross (4th ed). So is there any ex psychology students or any person who may have this tucked away behind the bookshelf, that would be willing to let it go!!
  2. Yes thanks everybody, had a mental block. Got it finished 271 words. Pooks your suggestion is basically how we went about it. Watch this space we have a few more assignments to go. Big research project to finish course. Just for the record we are fairly new to this kind of thing. Thanks to all Ps Good luck to the lady with the new baby, happy studying.
  3. Thanks folks. A 'schema' another word for perceptual set (expectations)- a persistent deeprooted, well organised classifications of ways of processing, thinking and believing. Schema: A schema is a cognitive system which helps us organize and make sense of information. For example, you may have a conceptual framework or developed a schema that all homeless people are rude. Because of this schema, you organize your actions around it and more readily look for information that supports this view while discarding information that disagrees with this perspective. Schemas exert a great deal of influence over us and sometimes hinder us from remembering new information because it does not fit into our cognitive framework. The 'schema' we were thinking: Decide what kind of meal you are cooking, vegetarian/non vegetarian, who the meal is for. Choose a recipe, read through recipe check cupboard for ingredients. Write out shopping list of needed ingredients. Go shopping for ingredients, bag up shopping and pay for purchases at checkout. Take shopping home unpack shopping bags, sort and prepare utensils required for making the meal and prepare food. Cook meal, carefully to follow all guidlines and don't burn yourself. Check smoke alarms (lol) Serve and enjoy with a nice bottle of bubbly! Unfortunately it needs to be 250 words! So if you can keep coming with help and suggestions. Thanks
  4. Question - Suggest at least six possible elements of a schema for cooking a meal. Have to answer this in 250 words. Any willing helpers
  5. Cheers! Have heard of him and in the process of doing research on his schooling and the montessori schooling. Thanks to everyone for their input, it is keeping us very busy!!!!
  6. Thanks for all replies. The bbc website very good - cheers. Found more on Piaget and now in the process of linking his cognitive theory and the ages these tie in with for beginning school. Thanks for Sigels name - looking into his theories. Will post back and let you know how we get on. Thanks again you have all been helpful
  7. Yes have got some of it down on paper but can't get into finding the research. Scandinavian countires send children later. Why? What are their reasons? Needin to find research or reports from researchers who have investigated this topic, but not succeeding. Telegraph/Scotsman ran stories on this issue and mentioned American research, but can't find it. It has all to do with play. Children learn more from play and working with what they already know. Why are boys less ready for school at five than girls. Trying to link it to Jean Piaget, unfortunately don't know how
  8. Doing an essay for child psychology and I need to analyse in terms of psychological theory, a recent topical event reported in the media, concerned with child care or education. Anyone out there who would like to tell me 'when should our kids start formal education?' Four and a half, five, six or seven? Why do you think this? Do you have any experience? Can you relate it to a psychological theory? Also linking it with the stages of development at these ages. Help Please
