  1. I watched this programme cringing the whole way through the two episodes. I lived in a "scheme" when I was younger and can honestly say it was nothing like this one. Maybe it's a time thing and if I lived in one now it would be the same as the one on tv.

  2. 1. Poverty exists in Shetland. Don't really know about depravation as at various times most of people could say that they are deprived of something. eg lack of a better public transport system in the country areas of Shetland.

    2. I know of some people who are living or have been in poverty.

    3. I personally feel that society tends to turn a blind eye to some aspects of poverty and think oh that doesn't happen here in Shetland it is a subject that tends to get swept under the carpet.

    4. I have not had any experience but I know people who have

    5. Transport links could be better in some areas. Having to buy goods in local shops can be more expensive. I also feel people here tend to live above their means.

    6. Better transport links , cheaper fuel, cheaper childcare, cheaper food educate folk who are on long term benefits about work.

    7. People are generally on benefits because they need to be. There are a few who are on benefit because they want to be. These people should be helped to see that they could better their financial status greatly by getting work and off benefits.

    8. I couldn't put a figure on how much someone would need to get by on as each persons needs are different.

  3. I paid £100 for phone and £48 to get it repaired, I got the £48 back from the company sooth. I accepted the screen was not repairable the maddening points are the way I didn't get an explanation on things and the phone being less than a week from purchase and as I said before the phone was in a pocket.

  4. ^^ I never complained about the shop not paying for the repair I complained about not getting my money refunded as the phone wasn't fit for purpose I think it's a consumer right although I may be wrong. I also said I was fobbed off by the lack of an explanation and at no time did I mean the assistant wasn't polite. Maybe I'm being unreasonable in my opinion of not buying another phone locally but I bet I'm not alone in thinking like this. And as I said before sorry if I'm having a rant. Rant now over :D

  5. Sorry if it seems I'm having a rant. I bought phone for hubby to upgrade the bog standard one he had. He charged it up and took to work with him, the old phone sat in the same pocket for years nothing went wrong with it. He puts new phone in same pocket goes to work comes hame and the screen had a little black dot on it. Next day the whole screen went blank and rightly or wrongly the fob off was " oh thats a pressure fault you'll have to phone this company " card handed over end of story. I would have and subsequently have accepted that it was a pressure fault but felt totally let down by the reaction of the shop hence I won't buy from them or recommend them to anyone and as shetlandpeat says they can be a hit or a miss to deal with.

  6. I try and buy as much locally as possible and did a lot of research before I bought the phone but I was fobbed off when I went to the camera centre with little/no explanations about the problem so I will not buy or recommend anyone buy a mobile fae the cc. I also paid the company I was told to send phone to and had to hassle them for a refund, at least when I've bought mobiles fae the vodaphone shop they have sorted any problems with explanations and with a deal of courtesy and on one occasion free of charge and that was also screen damage.

  7. In my case I went to camera centre and was fobbed off with a number to phone myself to organise the repair. The phone was bought fae cc and was only a week old. Ended up screen couldn't be fixed an cc wouldn't give my money back so hubby bought el cheapo phone when he was away and works amazingly. I'll never buy a phone local again.

  8. I fully agree wi you Jumbo. But what can us folk who need the fuel do about it? I emailed the chancellor when he was on This Morning programme just after the budget and he fudged my question an basically said that the northern isles were not the highest prices in UK which I was astonished about. I think its aboot time we stood up to the fuel prices but don't know how or what to do aboot it.

  9. I wholeheartdly agree with the above posts. I have been on the receiving end of the care of the Shetland ambulance crews on numerous occasions and the care has been amazing. The A&E on my visits there has been amazing as well. I'd also like to add the Air Ambulance teams to the equation also. Glad to hear Robert is doing well.

  10. Michaels wood is an amazing place. It was set up by Ray Betty and Alan Ferrie in memory of their son / brother Michael. They've planted and tended hundreds o trees plants over the years and they've added a bird observatory, pond. picnic areas, benches,a bairns area and one of my favourites the quotation trail. Its got a fantastic viewpoint at the top. I've only managed to get to the top once  My sis had her wedding photos done there and I can't wait till the better weather kicks in and I can try to get there if my injuries permit it.
